Coca-Cola Seeks Participants For Vancouver 2010 Torch Route

May 15, 2009: Coca-Cola, one of four marketing partners sponsoring the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay leading up to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver Feb. 12-28, said it is looking for ten teenagers to help run the route in Calgary Jan. 18-19. Other marketing partners supporting different sections of the Torch Relay are RBC, the official investment/retail banking partner for the 2010 Winter Games; plane and train manufacturer Bombardier; and the government of Canada. Joining the ten torch bearers in Calgary will be Olympians and Coca-Cola “Ambassadors of Active Living” Shawn Johnson, a four-time medalist in women’s gymnastics from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games; and Steven Lopez, who has won medals in men’s taekwondo in three consecutive Olympics. For the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, Coca-Cola is "seeking potential torchbearers who champion positive living," which the company said includes staying active and physically fit while having fun with family and friends, working to make good things happen for people throughout the community and also helping the planet by recycling or donating time to a recycling program in the community or school.“Coca-Cola is committed to making a positive difference in the world by rethinking the way we live and work,” Bill Kelly, svp-Coca-Cola Trademark Brands, Coca-Cola North America, said in a statement. “As a presenting partner of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, we are using this opportunity to recognize some outstanding teens who personify positive living and serve as sources of inspiration to their friends, family and community.” To participate, nominators can visit www.livepositively.com and submit an essay that expresses, in 200 words or less, "why the nominee is a champion of positive living." Nominations will be accepted through May 31. Back to Home Page
