June 29, 2022: People worldwide now have a ticket to ride to the 2022 Men’s World Cup in Qatar.
FIFA said today that 1.8 million tickets have been sold for the 2022 Tournament, scheduled to be played Nov. 21-Dec. 18.
Another 1.2 million tickets are “going to sponsors and other backers,”
Of the total allotment, FIFA said some 200,000 tickets will be sold July 5 on a “first-come first-served” process via the FIFA ticketing Web site.
“Remaining tickets for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be back on sale next week, giving fans an unmissable chance to secure their place at the greatest football show on Earth,” according to FIFA.
Several reports, including The Guardian UK, said, “Qatari authorities have failed to give a guarantee to traveling LGBTQ+ supporters that they will be safe at the World Cup, prompting leading organizations to advocate against travel to the tournament.”
According to The Guardian, a general reply from Qatar authorities in response to their concerns read, "Everyone will be welcome to Qatar in 2022, regardless of their race, background, religion, gender, sexual orientation or nationality.
"We are a relatively conservative society — for example, public displays of affection are not a part of our culture.
“We believe in mutual respect and so whilst everyone is welcome, what we expect in return is for everyone to respect our culture and traditions.”
FIFA said the biggest demand for tickets came from Qatar, where a special category of tickets was available only to residents of the host nation.
Top-ticket buyers also included Argentina, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, UAE and the U.S.
The most popular game was World Cup Final, scheduled for Dec. 18.

According to FIFA, “Fans are encouraged to plan their trip to Qatar carefully and stay away from unauthorized websites and fake/invalid tickets – the only official channel from which to obtain FIFA World Cup tickets is FIFA.com/tickets."
FIFA, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC and Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy said they have “committed to reducing and offsetting all carbon emissions related to the FIFA World Cup 2022 — including the travel-related emissions of all ticket holders.
“Ahead of the tournament, FIFA is inviting fans to raise a Green Card for the Planet to highlight awareness of the need to protect the environment.”
FIFA is asking people to sharie a video message where they “mention an action that they will undertake to protect the environment while also requesting others to follow suit.”
People who have already had their tickets confirmed are being invited via e-mail to “pledge to reduce their own carbon emissions and earn a chance to win a voucher for a memorable souvenir to take home from Qatar.”
FIFA global partners include Adidas, Coca-Cola, Hyundai-Kia, Qatar Airways, Qatar Energy, Visa and Wanda Group.
