AEG Deal With Dignity Health Includes Renaming Of Chargers, Galaxy Venue

By Barry Janoff

December 13, 2018: AEG, which owns, operates and/or manages stadiums and arenas worldwide, has signed a deal with Dignity Health that includes naming rights to StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

The renamed Dignity Health Sports Park is home to the MLS LA Galaxy and is the temporary home to the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers.

A team from the XFL is scheduled to play there when the league beings in 2020.

Dignity Health also becomes the official health care partner of the Galaxy and will also work directly with the LA Galaxy Foundation, the club’s charitable arm.

Financial terms of the deal were not shared.

MLS stadium naming rights average between $3-$5 million per year over 10-15 years, according to industry analysts.

“Dignity Health is dedicated to providing excellent care for those in need, and as the new naming rights partner for one of AEG’s marquee facilities, we look forward to working with them to amplify our efforts to make a positive and lasting difference for all our fans,” Dan Beckerman, CEO for AEG, said via the company.

“Sports has the power to bring people together, and Dignity Health is the perfect partner to help us highlight and support the LA community that surrounds the LA Galaxy and Dignity Health Sports Park.”

The stadium opened in 2003 as the Home Depot Center on the campus of Cal State University Dominguez Hiils, about 20 miles south of Los Angeles.

SutbHub acquired naming rights in 2013.

Current founding partners in the stadium include adidas, Alcatel, American Express, Anheuser-Busch, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, City National Bank, Coca-Cola, Draft Kings, Frontier Communications, McDonald’s, Modelo, San Manuel Casino, Toyota and Universal Studios.

The Chargers moved into the stadium from San Diego in 2017. The franchise is scheduled to move into the multi-billion dollar Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park, now under construction, along with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020.

Dignity Health, headquartered in San Francisco, is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation that operates hospitals and ancillary care facilities in three states.

In addition to signage on and in the venue, Dignity Health will support with multi-media marketing.

The company said it would host “numerous annual community events at DHSP and throughout Greater Los Angeles in conjunction with Dignity Health’s Hello ‘Human Kindness’ brand.”

Dignity Health will provide in-stadium first aid services as well as have its mobile wellness clinic onsite throughout the season.

In addition, Dignity Health will support LA Galaxy youth program initiatives, including the club’s local youth team affiliates and youth soccer tournaments like LA Galaxy Cup and Copa LA.

“Dignity Health is the perfect partner to help us highlight and support the L.A. community that surrounds the LA Galaxy."

LA Galaxy players will make regular visits to Dignity Health hospitals each year, meeting with patients and support staff. Viewing parties will also be held for patients at Dignity Health hospitals for select LA Galaxy games, with LA Galaxy Star Squad and mascot Cozmo set to attend various events.

“This reflects Dignity Health’s commitment to meet the needs of every patient and family member who seeks care with respect, compassion and dignity,” said Dignity Health. “The LA Galaxy Foundation shares this belief, and spends countless hours giving back to the community at local schools, hospitals, fields and events.”

According to Julie Sprengel, svp  Dignity Health Southern California, “LA Galaxy fans live and work in the communities we serve, including downtown Los Angeles, Glendale, Long Beach, Northridge and the Inland Empire.

“With this partnership, we’ll now have an even greater opportunity to give back to the families who entrust their health care to us.”
