Aflac's Duck Joins Buzz, Woody And Friends In 'Toy Story 3' Campaign

Caught in the nest: In its 50th TV commercial, Aflac's duck seeks to help Buzz and Woody.May 17, 2010: Insurance company Aflac has aligned with Disney and Pixar for a multi-media Toy Story 3-themed blitz that also helps to celebrate the 50th TV spot starring its iconic duck.

The campaign, breaking this week, will include TV, print, in-cinema, Internet, an Hispanic marketing push, a consumer sweepstakes and a tie-in with Nascar. Toy Story 3 will hit theaters June 18 in both 3D and 2D.

The Aflac duck was created by the company's long-time ad agency, Kaplan Thaler, New York; Aflac's lead agency is now Zimmerman, Tallahassee, Fla., which signed on earlier this year.

The TV spot, which breaks May 17 on network and cable, incorporates the Aflac duck into the storyline of Toy Story 3, which sees Buzz Lightyear, Woody and friends trying to survive and ultimately escape being sent to a daycare center when their owner, Andy, goes to college. As the duck surveys his surroundings, a voiceover explains that even when life gets rough Aflac is there to protect you.

A print ad will appear in the July issue of Parents Magazine featuring the Aflac duck, Woody and Buzz with the message, "Even the toughest of us can use a little extra protection."

Aflac is also sponsoring People en Espanol's screening of Toy Story 3 in five key Hispanic markets and hosting a special screening of Toy Story 3 for the children at the Aflac Cancer Center in Atlanta, Ga.

'Toy Story 3' hits theaters in June from Disney-Pixar.A Toy Story 3-themed paint scheme will be unveiled for the No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion for Nascar Sprint Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway on June 20 in Sonoma, Calif. Aflac will also place online banner ads on various Web sites and run in-cinema ads in theatres across the country.

"The Aflac duck deserves a blockbuster for its 50th television ad that explains how Aflac is a vital part of any financial plan – and this summer nothing will be bigger than Toy Story 3,'" Jeff Charney, Aflac svp and CMO, said in a statement. "Just like the toys at the daycare center discover, life can be unpredictable and we want people to know that when you are thrown for a loop Aflac's policies can help keep you protected."
