Melanie Oudin Adds AirTran To Growing Marketing Roster

September 18, 2009: Melanie Oudin, the teenager who rolled into the quarterfinals of the U.S. Tennis Open, has signed a deal with AirTran Airways, a low-cost regional airline based out of Orlando. Financial details were not disclosed.

Oudin, who turns 18 on Sept, 23, joins an AirTrans' sports marketing roster that includes NFL quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Matt Ryan, IndyCar driver Danica Patrick and former pitching great Tom Glavine. AirTran also is the official carrier of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens.

Oudin, who lives in Marietta, Ga., and is represented by marketing firm Blue Entertainment Sports Television, will be in radio spots and appear on billboards in the Atlanta region, where AirTran has a major hub. Oudin also has deals with adidas and Wilson (both of which are up for renewal), and BackOffice Associates, a leading provider of data migration and data governance solutions for global SAP customers, a deal she signed during the U.S. Open.

On Sept. 20, she will be honored after the first quarter of the Atlanta Falcons home game against the Carolina Panthers, when Falcons owner Arthur Blank will present Oudin with a jersey.

"Melanie Oudin has quickly become a household name in the world of tennis, and we are so proud of her accomplishments both on and off the court," Tad Hutcheson, AirTran Airways' vp-marketing and sales, said in a statement.

Oudin's U.S. Open showing moved her from No. 70  to No. 44 in the world where she is the third highest ranked U.S. woman behind Serena and Venus Williams, "I am thrilled to have AirTran as a partner as I strive to reach my goals as a professional tennis player," she said in a statement. "It means so much to me that a local company is supporting me and I am truly excited about this partnership."
