AirTran Air Alliance Adds To NFL Arsenal

August 25, 2009: Low-cost airline AirTran Airways continues to fly high in the NFL, unveiling a multi-year marketing deal with the Atlanta Falcons, which are based in the carrier's home town. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Falcons join the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts as official NFL partners of AirTran Airways. The deal includes joint promotions, ads with Falcons players, signage at the Falcons' home Georgia Dome, billboards and a specially designed Falcons-themed Boeing 717. The team already has a marketing deal with Falcons' QB Matt Ryan and Ilya Kovalchuk and Kari Lehtonen of the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers, as well as NFL QB Donovan McNabb and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick.

AitTran, which said it operates more than 60% of its flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, has formed several strategic partnerships with prominent Atlanta-based organizations, including the Georgia Aquarium, True Colors Theatre, Georgia State University, Desire Street Ministries, Woodruff Arts Center and Centennial Olympic Park. The carrier last week signed a marketing deal with Tom Glavine, who pitched for most of his MLB career with the Atlanta Braves.

JetBlue and American Airlines are among the other carriers that have been active in signing marketing deals with pro teams.

"The Falcons represent the city and the region in such a wonderful, first-class way," Tad Hutcheson, AirTran Airways' vp-marketing and sales, said in a statement. "Just like Matt Ryan and the rest of the team, AirTran Airways is committed to putting the best product on the field, or in our case, in the sky each and every day."
