• Puma, which is rebooting its hoops division with the signing of potential top NBA draft picks Deandre Jordan and Michael Bagley III to shoe deals, said it has named producer/musician/businessman Jay-Z as president of basketball operations. The company said it has been working with Jay-Z run Roc Nation “for quite some time.” In addition, Hall of Famer Walt "Clyde" Frazier, a Puma partner for its first signature shoe in the 1970’s and long-time endorser, has signed a lifetime contract with the shoe brand.

• Panini America has signed an exclusive autograph trading card memorabilia agreement with All-American point guard Trae Young, a projected Top Ten pick in this week's 2018 NBA Draft. Young led the nation in both scoring (27.4 ppg) and assists (8.8 apg) during a his freshman season with the University of Oklahoma.

• Xyience said it would be an official sponsor and the official energy drink for the 2018 International Champions Cup presented by Heineken, a premier  occer tournament featuring top clubs and players from Europe. The ICC runs from July 20- Aug. 7 and includes 17 matches played across 14 U.S. cities. (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and SiriusXM.) Sponsors also  include Heineken, Ally, Hertz, MasterCard, Gatorade, Konami and Vivid Seats.

American Express Expands NBA Presence With Turner Sports 'NBA On TNT' Alliance

October 30, 2015: Turner Sports has NBA on TNT, Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal.

It now also has American Express.

Turner Sports has signed a multi-year agreement making American Express the exclusive presenting sponsor of the NBA on TNT and NBA TV halftime shows.

The American Express Halftime Report will be a featured presentation during all regular season and playoff games on TNT and NBA TV, as well as during TNT’s exclusive presentation of the NBA All-Star Game.
 
“NBA fans know and love the TNT halftime show for delivering in-depth analysis and sharp, witty commentary week in and week out for the entire season,” Jill Hamilton, vp-U.S. media for American Express, said in a statement. “The American Express Halftime Report is a valuable platform that complements the brand’s partnership with the league, its teams and, most importantly, the fans.”

Amex has served as official credit card of the NBA since 2010 and also is the official card for the WNBA and NBA D-League.

The Turner alliance comes the same week as the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors and American Express inked multi-year partnership under which American Express became the official card of the team, in addition to joining the Warriors Gold Alliance group, a partnership comprised of key sponsors.

In September, American Express signed a deal to become an official partner of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. The company has been an official sponsor of the U.S. Tennis Open since 1994 and has an alliance with the U.S. Golf Assn.

In addition, the company has alliances with NBA teams Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards.

American Express has spent about $50 million on sports and entertainment-related sponsorships over the past year, according to research and consulting firm IEG, Chicago.
 
This new deal between Turner Sports and American Express expands upon past sponsorship programs between the two companies, including extensive American Express presence during NBA All-Star 2015 in New York that included live concert events at Hammerstein Ballroom produced by Turner Sports.

American Express also launched  PIVOT, a digital video experience hosted on an American Express featured section on NBA.com.
 
According to Jon Diament, evp-Turner Sports ad sales, “A key part of our portfolio, our longstanding partnership with the NBA gives us a great platform through which to create meaningful sponsorship packages for advertisers,” said “This multi-year deal with American Express closely aligns a league partner with our best-in-class studio show and will deliver premium live audiences.”
