October 30, 2015: Turner Sports has NBA on TNT, Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal.
It now also has American Express.
Turner Sports has signed a multi-year agreement making American Express the exclusive presenting sponsor of the NBA on TNT and NBA TV halftime shows.
The American Express Halftime Report will be a featured presentation during all regular season and playoff games on TNT and NBA TV, as well as during TNT’s exclusive presentation of the NBA All-Star Game.
“NBA fans know and love the TNT halftime show for delivering in-depth analysis and sharp, witty commentary week in and week out for the entire season,” Jill Hamilton, vp-U.S. media for American Express, said in a statement. “The American Express Halftime Report is a valuable platform that complements the brand’s partnership with the league, its teams and, most importantly, the fans.”
Amex has served as official credit card of the NBA since 2010 and also is the official card for the WNBA and NBA D-League.
The Turner alliance comes the same week as the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors and American Express inked multi-year partnership under which American Express became the official card of the team, in addition to joining the Warriors Gold Alliance group, a partnership comprised of key sponsors.
In September, American Express signed a deal to become an official partner of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. The company has been an official sponsor of the U.S. Tennis Open since 1994 and has an alliance with the U.S. Golf Assn.
In addition, the company has alliances with NBA teams Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards.
American Express has spent about $50 million on sports and entertainment-related sponsorships over the past year, according to research and consulting firm IEG, Chicago.
This new deal between Turner Sports and American Express expands upon past sponsorship programs between the two companies, including extensive American Express presence during NBA All-Star 2015 in New York that included live concert events at Hammerstein Ballroom produced by Turner Sports.
American Express also launched PIVOT, a digital video experience hosted on an American Express featured section on NBA.com.
According to Jon Diament, evp-Turner Sports ad sales, “A key part of our portfolio, our longstanding partnership with the NBA gives us a great platform through which to create meaningful sponsorship packages for advertisers,” said “This multi-year deal with American Express closely aligns a league partner with our best-in-class studio show and will deliver premium live audiences.”
