May 19, 2009: The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have signed a deal making JetBlue Airways the team's "official and exclusive airline." Financial terms were not disclosed. The alliance will include joint marketing promotions and advertising through 2009 with the option to extend through the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Elements will include videoboard features, contests, giveaways and special game-specific discounts on JetBlue airfare for members of the Angels Fan Club. JetBlue will also receive signage elements both inside and outside of the stadium. The pact also will see the airline become involved in community projects supported by the team. To inaugurate the partnership, JetBlue is hosting a "FANtastic" giveaway on May 20 at Angel Stadium, where the first 346 fans (the total number of Angels hits through Sunday, May 17) will receive a free roundtrip travel certificate. JetBlue currently serves two Los Angeles-area airports: Burbank and Long Beach, where it is the largest carrier. On June 17, JetBlue will begin twice-daily service to both Boston and New York/JFK from Los Angeles International Airport. JetBlue also is the official airline of the Boston Red Sox and a partner of Fenway Park and the official domestic airline of the Los Angeles Dodgers. "As we continue to expand in Southern California, providing more options and more convenience for our customers with the opening of LAX next month, we look to also support the teams and foundations that impact the community," Robin Hayes,evp/COO for JetBlue Airways, said in a statement. JetBlue and the Dodgers are currently sponsoring a "coast-to-coast sweepstakes" offering airfare, tickets to MLB games and other gift packages.
