MLB Playoff Payoffs: Astros Score Record $38.7M From Record $107.5M Players Pool

November 23, 2022: The Houston Astros won the 2022 World Series, and now get to bask in the payoff.
MLB said today that by winning the Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Astros are dividing $38.7 million into a record $516,347 each as part of a record players’ pool of $107.5 million.
The league said that was up 19% from last year’s then-record pool of $90.47 million when the Atlanta Braves won the 2021 World Series over the Astros.
This was first season in which the playoffs were expanded to 12 teams via the new Wild Card Series format.
The previous record for a post-season share was also handed to the Astros when they cashed in $438,901.57 each for winning the 2017 World Series.
That is also the World Series in which an MLB investigation found the team was involved in stealing signs from the Los Angeles Dodgers via a videocamera in centerfield in Minute Maid Park that watched as the Dodgers’ catchers signaled pitches to the pitcher, the feed of which was relayed to the Astros dugout, which then relayed the on-coming pitch to Houston batters by banging on a trash can, according to MLB.
According to MLB, the Astros split the $38.7 million into 59 full shares, 14.14 partial shares and $940,000 in cash awards,
The Phillies divided $25.8 million into 72 full shares, 15.03 partial shares and $20,000 in cash awards.
According to MLB, the pool includes 60% from the first two games of each Wild Card series, the first three games of each NL and AL division series, the first four games of each NL and AL championship series and the first four games of the World Series.
