Atlanta Going Super Bowling: Super Bowl LXII Will Play In Mercedes-Benz Stadium

October 15, 2024: Describing it as “a world-class event destination,” the NFL today named Atlanta as the host city for Super Bowl LXII in February 2028 to conclude the 2027 season.
The game will be played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Falcons.
The decision was made at the NFL Fall League Meeting in Atlanta “following a review of the proposal by the NFL’s Fan Engagement & Major Events Committee and a vote by full ownership.”
“Renowned for its hospitality and rich sports and entertainment culture, Atlanta is a world-class event destination and a natural fit for Super Bowl 62,” commissioner Roger Goodell said via the NFL.
“(Falcons owner) Arthur Blank has been a transformative figure in the Atlanta community, playing a crucial role in leading the bid to bring the Super Bowl back to the city.’
Super Bowl LXII will be the fourth time Atlanta has hosted the game and the second time in Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Super Bowl LIII February 2019).
The first two Super Bowls in Atlanta were played in the since-demolished Georgia Dome: Super Bowl XXVIII February 1994 and Super Bowl XXXIV January 2000.
As part of the lead-up to Super Bowl LXII, Atlanta will host a series of events, including NFL Honors, Super Bowl Experience and Super Bowl Opening Night, as well as an expansive community program.
“This is a tremendous honor for the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia to be selected as host for Super Bowl LXII,” said Blank via the NFL.
“Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built to host the world’s largest sporting events, and I know I speak for many when I say we are honored to bring it back to Atlanta in 2028 and build off the success of Super Bowl LIII in 2019. I look forward to working alongside our city and state officials as we continue to elevate Georgia as a premier, global sports destination.”
Hosting a Super Bowl goes far beyond prestigious honors.
Mercedes-Benz StadiumIn 2020, the Super Bowl LIV Host Committee and Miami Beach commissions reported that the game brought in more than 4,500 new jobs to the area and had a total economic impact of $571 million.
In 2022 in Los Angeles, where the host and hometown Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in SoFi Stadium, the local economy gained nearly $500 million, according to a Host Committee study.
In 2023, the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee said Super Bowl LVII generated $1.3 billion total economic activity or gross output overall for Arizona, with $726.1 million total contribution to Arizona gross domestic product, according to an independent study conducted by the L. William Seidman Research Institute at W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University.
In 2024, Super Bowl LVIII in Allegiant Stadium resulted in $1 billion worth of spending in Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority via Applied Analysis.
