Beckham Gets Lead Role In Global Motorola Campaign

April 17, 2009: A new ad campaign from Motorola starring David Beckham will hit the U.S. two months before Beckham himself is scheduled to return to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. The campaign, from Ogilvy London, breaks in late April and will see Beckham touting the new Aura phone playing a character that Motorola said was inspired by the 1984 movie, The Terminator, which starred now California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Spend for the global effort was not disclosed. Beckham spends much of the TV spot and is see in print ads in just jeans, showing off his buff and tattooed body. In the TV spot, unique lighting and special effects come across as an X-ray machine that reveals Beckham to have a machine-like body. “Motorola always seem to come up with something different, a concept that no one else has, and they’ve certainly done that again with Aura.” Beckham said in a statement on his official Web site, www.Davidbeckham.com. "I love classic watches, so a phone that exposes its mechanics while also being so stylish is really unique. When you hold it, it feels like you have something really special in your hand.” The Motorola campaign was shot in Milan where Beckham is playing for AC Milan. Beckham recently ended deals with Pepsi and Gillette. Back to Home Page
