Beyoncé Getting Creative With adidas In Multi-Layered ‘Partnership Of A Lifetime’

By Banoff

April 4, 2019: Calling it the “partnership of a lifetime for me,” Beyoncé has signed a multi-layered alliance with adidas that will see the global star become a creative partner for the brand, develop new signature footwear and apparel.

She also with adidas will re-launch her Ivy Park apparel brand.

Beyoncé and adidas have worked together in the past but not to the extent or scope of this new alliance.

Financial terms were not shared.

“This is the partnership of a lifetime for me,” Beyoncé said via adidas. “Adidas has had tremendous success in pushing creative boundaries.

“We share a philosophy that puts creativity, growth and social responsibility at the forefront of business. I look forward to re-launching and expanding Ivy Park on a truly global scale with a proven, dynamic leader.”

Beyoncé launched Ivy Park in 2016 with fashion retailer Toyshop.

She ended the relationship due to allegations involving sexual misconduct and racial situations by the owner of Toyshop’s parent company.

Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment acquired full ownership of Ivy Park this past November.

At the time of its initial launch, Beyoncé said her goal with the Ivy Park line was to "push the boundaries of athletic wear and to support and inspire women who understand that beauty is more than your physical appearance"

The name comes from her and Jay-Z’s (Shawn Carter) daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, and Parkwood Park in her native Houston, where Beyoncé said she spent a lot of time exercising and meditating.

Multi-media marketing is expected to support but was not addressed.

Adidas said the partnership will be based on “inspiring and empowering the next generation of creators, driving positive change in the world through sport, and identifying new business opportunities.”

“As the creator sports brand, adidas challenges the status quo and pushes the limits of creativity through its open source approach,” Eric Liedtke, executive board member, Global Brands, said via adidas.

“Beyoncé is an iconic creator but also a proven business leader, and together, we have the ability to inspire change and empower the next generation of creators.”

The alliance will see the co-creation of “exciting new products — from performance to lifestyle — and a unique purpose-driven program focused on empowering and enabling the next generation of athletes, creators and leaders,” per adidas.

“We share a philosophy that puts creativity, growth and social responsibility at the forefront of business."

“Meaningful and rich storytelling will be the foundation for both Beyoncé’s collection with adidas as well as the re-launch of her Ivy Park brand.”

Adidas stressed that the partnership “respects Beyoncé’s ownership of her company, which continues her journey as one of the first black women to be the sole owner of an athleisure brand.”

The adidas deal coincides with Beyoncé and Jay-Z celebrating their 11th anniversary (April 4, 2008).
