• Fenway Sports Management, ESPN Events and the City of Boston have unveiled “The Fenway Bowl,” an annual college football bowl game beginning in 2020 at Fenway Park teams from the American Athletic Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference .Fenway Park has hosted other college football games but this will be the first bowl game in the home of the Boston Red Sox.

• CBD edible company Bhang, Miami, has acquired Red Ace, a leading organic beverage company. Bhang plans to launch a Red Ace-branded line of CBD/terpene-style beverages and products, including functional sparkling beverages.

'Boys Reign, Brady Rules, Browns Rising In Demand For NFL Tickets, Merchandise

August 22, 2019: The Dallas Cowboys have not won an NFL championship since Super Bowl XXX (1995 season) and have appeared in just three playoff games since 2010, losing all three.

None the less, “America’s Team” keeps leading the pack when it comes to dollars and demand.

The Cowboys are the most valuable sports franchise in the world, valued at $5 billion, according to Forbes, and entering the 2019 season they are the most in-demand NFL team in ticket sales for the fifth year in a row, according to online ticket marketplace StubHub.

The team is up 64% from 2018, based on ticket sales, outselling the Green Bay Packers (at No. 2) by 54%.

In addition, Dallas leads all NFL teams based on eBay merchandise sales from July 2018-July 2019, according to StubHub, which is a division of eBay.

Still, other NFL teams are showing their strength when it comes to ticket and merchandise sales entering the 2019 season.

Ticket demand for the Cleveland Browns is up 366%, the biggest jump among all NFL teams.

The team entered StubHub’s list of Top Ten in-demand teams for the first time ever at No.7. (See full list below.).

And with quarterback Baker Mayfield and new wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland is also No. 1 on StubHub’s “Fan Optimism Index,” described as “an algorithm comparing Vegas odds to fans’ purchase behavior, when the 2019 season schedule was released.”

"Earlier this year, we found Cleveland Browns' fans to be the most optimistic by comparing buying behavior against Vegas odds, so it's appropriate that the Browns are seeing a huge jump in ticket sales, especially given recent free agency acquisitions,'' Akshay Khanna, GM of NFL for StubHub, said via the company.

Led by 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, demand for Kansas City Chiefs tickets is up 280% from 2018.

“The Browns and the Chiefs have been top stories in the NFL over the last year, so it’s appropriate to see the teams topping StubHub’s top trending teams list with so much buzz,” said Khanna.

"With the Browns’ splashy off-season acquisitions and Patrick Mahomes’ recent MVP year and AFC Championship appearance, it’s clear why fans are confident and buying tickets at an astonishing volume.”

However, what StubHub calls “historic franchises” are continuing to lead demand in 2019, during which the NFL will celebrate its 100th season.

“The Cowboys, Packers, (Chicago) Bears and (New England) Patriots dominate StubHub’s Top Ten in-demand teams and each are up at least 20% in ticket sales from 2018,” said Khanna.

“It really shows that loyal fan bases, histories of winning seasons and continued buzz throughout the off-season can continue to fuel high demand.”

The Oakland Raiders were No. 7 on the StubHub list, but most likely will move up in 2020 when the franchise moves from the Bay Area to Las Vegas and their new $1.9 billion Allegiant Stadium.

In a similar situation, the Los Angeles Chargers were No. 9 on the Most In-Demand Ticket list and the Los Angeles Rams did not make the Top Ten, but they, too, expect to see more ticket demand in 2020 when they both move into their new $5 billion stadium in Ingelwood.

GreenBay has the Top Three most in-demand games based on StubHub ticket sales through Aug. 22:  Packers at Bears (Sept. 5), Packers at Cowboys (Oct. 6) and the Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay for the Packers’ home opener (Sept. 15).

The Top Five most in-demand games also include  the New York Giants at Dallas (Sept. 8) and the Pittsburgh Steelers at New England (Sept. 8). (See full list below.)

Indicating a growing interest in NFL international games, the sixth most in-demand game is the Bears vs. the Raiders in London (Oct. 6).

Increase in demand for international games is up 55% from 2018, according to StubHub.

Buyers from 35 countries have purchased tickets to NFL games in London this year, up from 31 countries in 2018.

’’Interest in the league, internationally, continues to climb as the Bears-Raiders NFL London matchup is in the Top Ten most anticipated games," said Khanna. "London games are drawing fans from over 35 countries,”

The NFL is scheduled to play five international games this season.

Four are in London: Bears-Raiders (Oct. 6, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium), Carolina Panthers-Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Oct. 13, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium), Cincinnati Bengals-Los Angeles Rams (Oct. 27, Wembley Stadium) and Houston Texans-Jacksonville Jaguars (Nov. 3, Wembley Stadius).

The Chiefs play the Chargers in Mexico City (Nov. 18, Estadio Azteca).

Closer to home, NFL fans in Canada are supporting their favorite “border teams." The Top Three teams with the largest percentage of buyers from Canada are the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions.

According to Paul Nowosad, GM of Canada for StubHub, “More than ever, Canadians are traveling across the border to watch an NFL game, The border teams like the Bills, Seahawks and Lions offer a tremendous opportunity and easy access to take part in a fantastic sports tradition.”

Regarding players, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is the most popular NFL player when it comes to merchandise sales on eBay, not only in the U.S., but also in Mexico, Canada and the U.K.

The Top Five also includes Drew Brees  (New Orleans Saints), Aaron Rodgers (Packers), Ezekiel Elliot (Cowboys) and Beckham Jr. (Browns).

“Tom Brady continues to resonate most with eBay shoppers following his Super Bowl LIII win, according to fan gear sales on our marketplace,” Sam Bright, vp-merchandising for eBay, said via the company.

“We are, however, seeing increases in excitement for other players compared to our Top Ten rankings of 2018. Odell Beckham, Jr., who ranked No. 10 last year (when he was with the New York Giants) is now the No.5trending player following his move to the Cleveland Browns.”

Bright said newcomers to the Top Ten list include Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, Rams running back Todd Gurley and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson — “all fantasy football favorites.” (See full list below.)

“StubHub sales demonstrate that fandom for NFL is spreading at an increased rate around the world,” said Khanna

 “With more international games offered, the sport is continuing to reach more fans and drive more interest. Even U.S. events are seeing an uptick in international buyers.”
