November 16, 2015: The New England Patriots are riding a winning wave of 9-0 to date in the NFL, but they also have other reasons to celebrate.
The defending Super Bowl champions are No. 1 in combined team jersey sales while quarterback Tom Brady is No. 1 in individual player jersey sales through the mid-way point of the 2015 season.
Brady did not lose on the field and was not deflated in October results, in particular, scoring the best-selling player jersey on 20 of the month's 31 days, according to the Dick's Sporting Goods Jersey Report.
Following Brady in October were New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (four days), Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden (two days), wide receiver A.J. Green of the Cincinnati Bengals (two Days), tight end Rob Gronkowski of the Patriots (one day), San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (one day) and linebacker Luke Kuechly of the Carolina Panthers (one day).
Brady also ranks No. 1 in player-jersey sales from the start of the 2015 season through mid-season, according to Pittsburgh-based national retailer Dick's.
From the start of the season, Brady was followed on the best-selling player jersey list by Kuechly, Gronkowski, Beckham Jr., quarterback Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, Green, wide receiver Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts and Aaron Rodgers, quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.
Specific financial figures were not released.
The rankings of the best-selling NFL jerseys nationwide in Dick's Sporting Goods from the beginning of the season are based on sales in-store and online. October figures are based on in-store and online sales between Oct. 1-31, 2015. according to the Dick's Sporting Goods Jersey Report.
Dick's has more than 600 locations in 46 states.
The list of jersey sales from Dick's is somewhat different from a recent list released by the NFL Players Assn. and its licensing and marketing arm, NFL Players Inc.
That list showed quarterback Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks with the No. 1 selling player jersey.
Brady was No. 2, Manning No. 3 and Rodgers No. 4, per the NFL Players Assn.
Figures were based on overall sales of all licensed products from online and traditional retail outlets for the year-to-date from March 1-Aug. 31, 2015, as reported by more than 80 NFLPA licensees.
At Dick's Wilson is No. 15, Manning No. 6 and Rodgers No. 10.
From beginning of season through mid-season, the Top Ten best-selling jerseys by team as reported by Dick's are the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Patriots are 9-0, the Cincinnati Bengals 8-1 and the Panthers 9-0, raising interest and driving sales among player and combined team jerseys for those three teams.
The Broncos (7-2) and Seahawks (4-5) had been No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in sales rankings prior to the start of the 2015 season, but have dropped to No. 7 and No. 8.
The Eagles (4-5) had the biggest jump, from No. 30 to No. 10. The Niners (3-6) experienced the biggest drop, from No. 14 to No. 25.
From the beginning of the season through mid-campaign, the top-selling jerseys among rookies are quarterback Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans, quarterback Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wide receiver Amari Cooper of Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears wide receiver Kevin White and wide receiver Nelson Agholor of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Top-selling rookie jerseys in October belong to Mariota, Cooper, Winston, Agholor and running back Todd Gurley II of the St. Louis Rams.
