Catcher In The Cards: Buster Posey Named Brand Spokesman For Topps MLB
By Barry Janoff
June 10, 2015: With three World Series rings since 2010, Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants is tops among all catchers and most baseball players.
Now he is tops at Topps.
The iconic sports and entertainment card company said today (June 10) that Posey has been signed as a company spokesman to appear in marketing, on packaging and in other activations to support Topps' baseball products.
Financial terms were not released.
Posey was in the Topps office in New York to launch the deal.
The Giants are in town for a three-game series against the New York Mets (June 9-11).
Topps also is using the occasion to unveil its Series 2 MLB Set.
Prior to the start of the current season, Posey was voted as the Face of Major League Baseball by fans via an online contest conducted by MLB Network.
Among his other deals are Under Armour, BodyArmor and as brand ambassador for Esurance, the online division of Allstate, which this season became the official auto insurance company for MLB and the title sponsor of the all-digital Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot.
Posey was named NL Rookie of the Year in 2010. Since then, he has been NL MVP and batting champ in 2012, a two time All-Star and won World Series titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
Following Tuesday night's no-hitter pitched by Chris Heston of the Giants against the New York Mets, Posey has caught three no-hitters. The MLB record is four, held by catcher Jason Veritek (who also caught seven one-hitters) when he was with the Boston Red Sox.
The Topps Series 2 base set will be a continuation of several offerings from the 2015 Series 1 set. That includes celebrity "First Pitch" cards of actor John Hamm; comic book and pop culture icon Stan Lee; Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart of The Grateful Dead; and actor Chris Pratt.
The set will contain the first cards for Chicago Cubs rookie standout Kris Bryant and Arizona Diamondbacks star Yasmany Tomas, as well as additional “Baseball History” cards and a “Highlight of the Year” autograph and relic subset.
The Series 2 base set will also feature Veterans, Rookies, Future Stars, League Leaders and new highlights from the 2014 season and World Series.
