UPDATED May 7, 2024: The Los Angeles Sparks said that three home games have been moved from Walter Pyramid (5,000 seats) back to Crypto.com Arena (20,000), including Caitlin Clark’s first WNBA game with the Indiana Fever in Los Angeles (May 24).
Two other Sparks home games — against the Dallas Wings (May 26) and June 5 against Minnesota Lynx (June 5) — are also moving to Crypto.com Arena. Sparks home games were originally moved to the Long Beach venue due to construction at Crypto.com Arena.
The Washington Mystics moved their home game vs. Clark (June 7) from Entertainment & Sports Arena (4,200 seats) to Capital One Arena (20,356 seats) and the Las Vegas Aces are moving their home game vs. Clark (July 2) from Michelob Ultra Arena (12,000 seats) to T-Mobile Arena (18,000).
May 1, 2024: With the 2024 WNBA campaign en route, the arrival of a bevy of rookies has made this one of the league’s most anticipated seasons and driven ticket sales to a new level.
WNBA sales on StubHub have grown 93% compared to last season, with the Indiana Fever “at the forefront of this growth” according to the online ticket destination, with sales up 13-times vs. 2023, following their selection of overall No. 1 draft pick Caitlin Clark.
“New stars like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso are bringing their impact from NCAAW Basketball to the WNBA to continue the surge in popularity that we’ve seen for this league,” Adam Budelli, StubHub spokesperson, said via the company.
Two-time defending champions Las Vegas Aces are the top in-demand team with sales nearly triple (up 190%) this time ahead of last season.
They are followed by the New York Liberty and 2023 WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart — which last season reached the WNBA Finals — with a 30% increase in sales on StubHub compared to the same time last season.
"The 2023 WNBA Finals set a record for the league on StubHub, with sales tripling compared to the previous year,” said Budelli.
But describing her impact as “electrifying,” StubHub said Clark, along with 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston and the Fever are the hottest team in the league.
The Fever are the top trending team, with overall sales on StubHub more than 13-time this same time last year.
Nine of the Top Ten best-selling games of the season are Indiana Fever away games, with the exception of the Phoenix Mercury at Las Vegas (May 14).
Seven of those Fever away games are on ESPN, ABC, ESPN 2 or NBA TV.
The Liberty's home opener against the Fever (May 18) is the most in-demand game of the season, outselling their home opener last year (also against the Fever) by more than three-times on StubHub.
The average price of tickets sold across teams in the league jumps 80% when the Fever come to play, and the Fever’s average ticket price on StubHub for away games is $175, the highest of any team.
The Aces switched their May 25 game from 12,000-seat Michelob Ultra Arena to 18,000-seat T-Mobile Arena.
The WNBA’s Washington Mystics have moved their June 7 game vs. Clark and the Fever from Entertainment and Sports Arena (4,200 seats) to Capital One Arena (20,000).
Average daily StubHub site visits for the Indiana Fever spiked almost 15-times compared to the day prior Clark said she’d be leaving Iowa and entering the WNBA draft, traffic jumped.
After being drafted to the Fever on April 15, average daily site visits spiked four-times compared to the prior day.
“As we head into this season, Caitlin Clark's impact is electrifying, sparking an unprecedented 15-times increase in searches for the Indiana Fever after her WNBA draft announcement,” said Budelli.
StubHub links the spike in WNBA ticket sales and the Caitlin Clark Effect back to this year’s Women’s Final Four — with Iowa defeating UConn before losing to South Carolina in the championship game — which was the “best-selling Women’s Final Four ever on StubHub.”
"StubHub has seen a significant increase in WNBA demand, just as we did in NCAAW Basketball this past season, marking a notable moment in the sport's and league's popularity,” said Budelli.
StubHub’s Top Five Most in-Demand Teams also include the Seattle Storm and Chicago Sky.
The Sky have tripled sales on StubHub from last season, with rookies this season including LSU’s Reese and South Carolina’s Cardoso.
People from Illinois make up 7% of total WNBA ticket sales on StubHub this season, trailing only California (14%) and New York (9%).
