Phil Mickelson Part Of Callaway Promotion In Return To U.S. Open

June 3, 2009: The challenged economy has forced marketers to be creative to attract consumers, including offering free food and taking over payments on new cars. Now, Callaway Golf is offering free golf clubs. From now through June 17, golfers who purchase one of three new Callaway drivers – the Big Bertha Diablo, FT-9 or FT-iQ – at any Golfsmith store nationwide will have the purchase price of their Callaway driver fully refunded by Golfsmith if either Phil Mickelson or Rocco Mediate wins the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in Bethpage State Park, New York, June 18-21. “This event gives golfers two great chances to get their Callaway driver purchase fully refunded with two of the best golfers in the world,” said Martin Hanaka, president and CEO of Golfsmith. Mediate finished second in the 2008 U.S. Open after tying Tiger Woods and forcing an 18-hole playoff after which both men were still tied. Woods won on the first sudden-death hole. Mickelson has already won three major tournaments and has claimed two PGA Tour victories to date in 2009 despite taking time off to be with his wife, Amy, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. “This event gives golfers two great chances to get their Callaway driver purchase fully refunded with two of the best golfers in the world,” Martin Hanaka, president and CEO of Golfsmith, said in a statement. Added Brian Groves, vp-marketing for Callaway Golf. “With Father’s Day approaching, Phil and Rocco may have more fan support than ever before at this year’s U.S. Open.” Go to any Golfsmith store or visit www.Golfsmith.com/usopen for full details.
