Candace Parker Joins Turner Starting Lineup For NBA, Players Only, March Madness

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

October 10, 2018:
Candace Parker, who has established herself as one of the top players in the history of the WNBA, continues to establish her credentials for life after and beyond  the basketball court.

Parker, who has been a guest analyst and commentator for Turner Sports, has signed deal to fill those positions full time for the NBA on TNT and NBA TV throughout the NBA season, and then during NCAA March Madness.

Parker will also continue to play for the Los Angeles Sparks during the WNBA season.

Financial terms of the deal were not shared.

Turner said her focus would be working with its Players Only studio team for telecasts airing on both TNT and NBA TV.

“Candace is one of the most influential basketball stars of her generation and we’re thrilled to provide a wide variety of opportunities for her to share her passion for the game and insights directly with fans,” Tara August, vp-talent relations and special projects for Turner Sports, said via Turner.

“She’s a trailblazer in every sense of the word and we can’t wait to further showcase her talents as a commentator across our collective basketball portfolio.”

Parker is a ten-year WNBA veteran and two-time league MVP, as well as MVP of the WNBA Finals in 2016 when the Sparks won the league championship. She was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft.

As a member of Team USA Women’s Basketball squad, she won Olympic gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Games.

Players Only debuted in February 2017, hosted by former players such as Kevin Garnett and Chris Webber and with commentators, analysts and guests who are former or current players.

According to Parker, “I cannot wait to resume broadcasting with Turner Sports and to be a part of what I consider the best basketball coverage out there.

“I love broadcasting because it allows me to share my passion for basketball with viewers, and I look forward to sharing my analysis and commentary in a variety of formats.”
