Peyton, Eli Manning's Dad Archie Puts His Focus On The NFL Marketing Picture

September 2, 2010: Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning earns about $15 million annually from endorsements, the most among any NFL player. His younger brother, quarterback Eli Manning of the New York Giants, earns a little more than half of that from his marketing deals.

In this case, it's their dad, Archie, who is getting in on the action for 2010. The elder Manning, who also was an NFL quarterback, is the spokesman for a national promotion among Canon, which is the official camera of the NFL; NFL Players, the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFL Players Assn.; and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The crux of the effort is the 6th annual “Why Do You Love Football?” amateur photo contest challenge, in which Canon and the Hall of Fame are looking for the best youth football photos from across America. The top prize includes wall space in the Canton, Ohio's hallowed halls for the winning photo(s) and a trips to Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium and the 2011 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony.

Now through Dec. 1, 2010, consumers can enter up to ten of their best youth football photos in two categories: "Action," which focuses on "any image that captures football action during game play;" and "Feature," which comprises any football imagery "outside of game action." The nationwide amateur photo contest is also divided into two divisions: adults ages 18 and over and teens 13-17, (Full details here.)

A panel of judges includes Archie Manning; Sports Illustrated photographer Peter Read Miller; and other "prominent staff photographers and photo editors," who will determine the group of 14 finalists in each division. At that point, visitors to the dedicated Web site can voting for their favorite photo from Dec. 20, 2010 until Jan. 7, 2011. The grand prize winners will be announced in early January.

Marketing support will include print, Internet and POP featuring Archie Manning.

"I look forward to see how fans portray their passion for the game of football through their photography,” Manning said in a statement. “Each year the photos entered in the contest get better and better and I am looking forward to see what this year’s will produce.”
