• Bluberi Gaming has signed a deal with WWE to develop a series of licensed slot games featuring WWE Superstars and Legends. Among those to be featured include John Cena, Triple H, Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey, along with such Legends as Hulk Hogan, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. The first WWE series of slot games is scheduled to hit casinos October 2020.

• HarperCollins Publishers said it has acquired world rights to Back, the first memoir authored by Tiger Woods. According to Woods, “This book is my definitive story. It’s in my words and expresses my thoughts. It describes how I feel and what’s happened in my life.” A publication date was not given.

• Turner Sports’ eLeague has signed a deal with tech solutions and services provider CDW to “create enhanced fan experiences across eLeague’s properties on TV, digital, social and in-arena.” The alliance also names CDW an “official arena partner” for eLeague and the Rocket League Championship Series. • San Manuel Casino, under the auspices of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, has signed a deal to become a Founding Partner for Allegiant Stadium, scheduled to open at the home of the Raiders for the 2020 NFL season when the franchise relocates from Oakland to Las Vegas.

• Halloween this year is Oct. 31, and retailers, marketers and consumers are ready for another season of trick-or-treat. Total spend on Halloween 2019 is expected to reach $8.8 billion according to the National Retail Federation, Washington, DC. Full story here. 

• The Paley Center for Media, NY, will honor the 100th season of the NFL with a new exhibit: "A Century of Football: Celebrating the NFL’s 100th Season," free and open to the public (thru Oct. 27).

In 2018, Capital One Mad Again For March With 'Amigos' Charles, Spike, Samuel L.

March 12, 2018: March Madness is back and so is NCAA corporate partner Capital One and so are the "Three Musk-Amigos” — Charles Barkley, Spike Lee and Samuel L. Jackson — united for the fifth year on their Final Four road trip.

Last year, the guest star was Gloria Gaynor. This time, CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz joins in on the fun as Barkley, Lee and Jackson make their way to San Antonio, with humorous incidents along the way.

Lead agency is DDB, Chicago. As in past years, the spots were directed by Lee.

In addition to the TV spots, Capital One's involvement in March Madness 2017 is multi-platform.

This year, it includes sponsorship of the March Madness Bracket Challenge, title sponsor of the Capital One JamFest — part of the three-day March Madness Music Festival (in The Hemisfair) that also includes the AT&T Block Party and Coca-Cola Music (March 30-April 1) — the Final Four Fan Fest presented by Capital One (in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center) and Capital One Championship Central on-air during Final Four weekend broadcasts on TBS.

The Capital One JamFest (April 1) will star Maroon 5.

The company is also presenting sponsor for Tourney Town at the Women's Final Four in Columbus, OH (March 31 and April 2).

New this time, the financial firm has launched what it calls the "Capital One Road to the Final Four Flavor Promotion," an offshoot of one of its new spots, “A La Mode,” in which Charles doesn’t know San Antonio’s history Alamo, thinking instead its “Fort A La Mode, where they sell ice cream.”

According to Capital One, “Reply (on social media) with a unique ice cream flavor inspired by #MarchMadness for your chance to win $4,000 using #FanAntonio + #Contest. No Purchase Necessary.” (Details here.)

In the new series, Barkley is, again, the butt of most of the jokes. In addition to his mis-speaking The Alamo as “a la mode,” he calls an armadillo a “turtle rat” and sings “Home on the Range” with the line, “Where the deer and the cantaloupe play.”

Capital One has consistently been among the biggest spenders during March Madness.

In 2016, Capital One had the fourth-largest national spend during the Tournament, $50 million, with 198 commercial units, according to media intelligence firm Kantar Media, NY.

The leader in 2017 was General Motors, with $83 million in ad spend and 329 units, including pre- and post- game programming, followed by AT&T with $66 million (334 units) and Coca-Cola at $56 million (268 units).

NCAA Corporate Champions are AT&T, Capital One and Coca-Cola.

NCAA Corporate Partners include Buffalo Wild Wings, Buick, Enterprise, Google Cloud, Infinity, Intel, Lowe’s, Marriott, Nabisco, Northwestern Mutual, Pizza Hut, Reese’s, Unilever and Wendy’s.

Longhorns
Charles doesn’t believe that a breed of livestock in Texas with long horns are actually called longhorns, or that birds that run along the road are called road runners or that weeds that tumble on the ground are called tumble weeds.

Friends In Low Places
The trio, on horseback and dressed as cowboys, sing Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” (“I got friends in low places/Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases/My blues away/And I’ll be okay/I’m not big on social graces, think I'll slip on down to the oasis Oh, I've got friends in low places”).

Hitting The Trail
Charles, Spike and Samuel L. are bonding as they hit the trail to San Antonio, dressed in western garb, leading Barkley to refer to them as “The Three Musk-Amigos.”

A La Mode
Charles mis-remembers The Alamo and is more excited about visiting the A La Mode than the Final Four, mistaking the historic site in San Antonio for a fort that serves ice cream.

Spending Habits
This spot actually shows a Capital One card feature in action: Charles needs to lock his Capital One card not because he lost it but because, “I do not trust my spending habits around smoked meats . . . or friendship bracelets, Bonzi trees, garned gnomes, hermit crabs and especially at arts & craft festivals.”

Cantaloupe
Led by Charles, the trio sing a version of “Home on the Range,” but with the line, “Where the deer and the cantaloupe play" because "Deer love cantaloupe."

Turtle Rat
Barkley mistakes an armadillo for a “turtle rat.”

Welcome
Nantz welcomes Spike, Charles and Samuel L. to San Antonio, but using his on-air broadcasting voice, infused with such TV terms as, “Guys, thanks for being here. I’ll be right back with some game-time snacks.”
