CBS Glad Over March (And April) Madness Numbers

April 13, 2009: CBS said that final figures on its coverage of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball tournament showed increased numbers across the board, including a 5% rise in metered markets on TV and a 58% rise in traffic to "March Madness on Demand." For the tournament, in which North Carolina defeated Michigan State on April 6, CBSSports.com, in partnership with CBS Sports, CBS College Sports Network and the NCAA, said there were 7.52 million unique visitors to the NCAA MMOD video player, a 58% increase over 2008 figures. Additionally, there were 8.6 million total hours of video and audio consumed, a 75% increase over the previous year. In addition, there were 8.6 million total hours of live streaming video and audio consumed, a 75% growth; and 515,000 total hours of video and audio engaged during the semifinal and championship games alone, a 51% increase over 2008 figures."Together with the NCAA, March Madness on Demand continues to set the bar for excellence for online video coverage of a sports event," Jason Kint, svp and GM and for CBSSports, said in a statement..
