Comcast Unveils World Cup Xfinity X1 Soccer Platform With Fox, Telemundo

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

June 6, 2018: Calling it the “most advanced and comprehensive, bi-cultural viewing experience for the 2018 FIFA World Cup,” Comcast has unveiled the Xfinity X1 soccer platform, including screens, menus and voice commands available in both English and Spanish

The Xfinity X1 soccer platform supports the first World Cup coverage by Comcast-owned Telemundo, and will integrate all live linear coverage from Telemundo and Fox with “full-game replays, highlights, Web video, real-time analytics and on-screen player and team stats.”

Telemundo Network is the official Spanish-language home and Fox is the exclusive English-language broadcaster of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“The World Cup is one of the biggest television events of the year and we’ve created an unparalleled viewing experience for today’s increasingly bicultural soccer fan,” Michael DEmilio, senior director-multicultural services for Comcast, said in a statement.

“X1 can integrate and curate content like no other platform and our soccer experience will include every match – live and On Demand – as well as a host of related content and new features and capabilities, to help customer enjoy the teams, matches and moments they care about most," said DEmilio.

Comcast said the Xfinity X1 soccer platform will offer more than 1,000 hours of live matches, On Demand highlights and replays from both Telemundo and Fox with Web clips and integrated scores, stats and data for search and discovery.

Among the features, for the first time Xfinity TV customers will be able to receive notifications on their TV or mobile phone, letting them know when their favorite team is about to begin play.

Instant On Demand coverage of every game enables people who missed the beginning of any match, regardless of which channel it’s air on, to restart it from the beginning even while the match is still in progress.

Instant On Demand makes the full replay of the game available the instant the game is over.

World Cup in 4K UHD allows X1 customers who have a 4K-capable set-top box and a 4K television the opportunity to experience Telemundo’s coverage of all 64 World Cup matches in 4K Ultra-High Definition.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup runs June 14-July 15.
