Curry, James, Warriors, Cavs Top List Of Best-Selling NBA Jerseys, Merchandise

By Barry Janoff

Janaury 24, 2017: The Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors have won the past two NBA titles and are on a path that could see them meet again this June.

So it comes as little surprise that players from the two teams hold the top positions among best-selling jerseys, or that the Warriors and Cavs are No. 1 and No. 2 on the list of best-selling team merchandise.

Perhaps what might be surprising is that two-time MVP Stephen Curry of the Warriors, and not LeBron James of the defending champion Cavs, has the best-selling jersey in the league, with teammate Kevin Durant, in his first season with the Warriors after leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder as a free agent, is No. 3.

James of the Cavs is No. 2 on the list and teammate Kyrie Irving is No. 4.

The Top 5 also includes Russell Westbrook of the Thunder.

James does lead in perhaps a more lucrative category: shoes.

His Nike’s are No. 1 on the list, followed by Irving (Nike), Kobe Bryant (Nike), Chris Paul (Nike Jordan) and Durant (Nike). Curry’s Under Armour kicks are No. 9.

Results are based on sales at NBAStore.com October 2016 through December 2016. Financial figures were not shared.

Curry and James retain their 1-2 jersey sales position from the previous list, which covered the period from April-June 2016.

The Warriors have the most players, three, among the Top 15, with Klay Thompson at No. 11.

Dwayne Wade, who joined the Chicago Bulls this season after 13 years with the Miami Heat, is No. 6.

Derrick Rose, who moved over from the Bulls to the New York Knicks for the 2016-17 campaign, is No. 10, but is second on the team behind second-year player Kristaps Porzingis.

The Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo is the lone newcomer among the Top 15, coming in at No. 14.

The Top 5 among team merchandise behind the Warriors and Cavs are the Los Angeles Lakers, the Bulls and the Knicks. In the previous list, the Cavs were No. 1, the Warriors No. 2.

Among the notables missing from the current list who were among the Top 15 in the previous list are Kobe Bryant (No. 3) and Tim Duncan (No. 11), both retired; and Draymond Green (No. 7) and Andre Iguodala (No. 14), both of the Warriors.
