Consumer Generated Ads, Danica Patrick Drive Go Daddy Into Indy 500

May 11, 2010: The iconic race is known worldwide as the Indianapolis 500. But Go Daddy has been trying its best to bring the event into its own domain.

The Web hosting and domain name provider will be the primary sponsor for the live race broadcast on ABC on May 30, and also remains the primary sponsor for Danica Patrick. Go Daddy is also adding another twist to its presence by running it first consumer generated ads culled from the top three winners of Go Daddy's "Create Your Own Commercial" promotion during the race broadcast.

Creators of the first place ad will receive $100,000 in cash. Second and third place winners take home $50,000 and $25,000, respectively. Five honorable mention winners will each win $15,000. Go Daddy ads are handled in-house.

All ten finalists are currently running at GoDaddy.com. Among them, a guitar player who goes from couch potato to rock star after getting a Go Daddy-hosted Web site, people who suffer from "domain dysfunction," a priest who has a Go Daddy religious experience. an "attorney" named Hank E. Pankey who gets no respect and a son who complains that his Dad's multiple partners treat him like a kid until the sexy ladies offer to give him a bath.

"Danica and I were very impressed with the commercial entries and I think viewers will be shocked with our winning picks, they aren't what I'd call conventional GoDaddy-esque ads," Bob Parsons, Go Daddy CEO and founder, said in a statement. "People found some clever ways to promote our brand. We just might be entering a new Go Daddy era. You might even say, Go Daddy is getting out of its comfort zone."

According to Patrick, who is scheduled to be one of five women drivers competing in the Indy 500, "It's always been a dream of mine to win the Indy 500 and I'd love nothing better than to do it in the Go Daddy car. GoDaddy.com has been such a great partner, in racing, with commercials. They've believed in me from the start."
