Hamlin Discharged From Buffalo Hospital, Will Rehab At Home With Family

UPDATED January 18, 2023: ESPN: As Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin continues his road to recovery, he has begun spending more time at the team's facility.
Coach Sean McDermott said today that Hamlin was there "almost daily," visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"It's limited, just overall," McDermott said of what Hamlin has been doing.
"But he comes in and really just started really today or yesterday and just trying to get back to a little bit of a routine and just get himself acclimated again and taking it one step, one baby step at a time here." Full story here.

January 11, 2023: Two days after he was transferred from a hospital in Cincinnati to one in Buffalo, Damar Hamlin has been discharged and allowed to continue he recovery at home with his family.
The Buffalo Bills and medical personnel said today that Hamlin has been discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, where he was transferred to on Monday from the UCincinnati Medical Center, and is at his home in Buffalo.
"We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills,” Dr. Jamie Nadler, critical care physician and chief quality officer at Kaleida Health, which runs Buffalo General, said via the facility.
Hamlin had been in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football game on Jan. 2.
His condition improved later in the week, enabling doctors to move him to Buffalo General Medical Center on Jan. 9.
There was no indication as to when he might visit his Bills teammates in person or return to any football-related activities.
"His health is first and foremost on our mind as far as this situation," Bills head coach Sean McDermott said during a NFL playoff media conference today. “And then when he feels ready, we will welcome him back."
The Bills are hosting the Miami Dolphins in a Wild Card game on Jan. 15.
The Bills game against the Cincinnati Bengals was cancelled, and the NFL put several playoff scenarios in place to accommodate both teams having played one fewer regular season game.
Follow his life-threatening incident, people worldwide contributed to a fund-raising platform that Hamlin formed in 2020 to support kids in need, with donations boosting the total from about $2,500 to more than $8.7 million and counting.
Hamlin said he plans to support young people through education and sports, and will also use proceeds from the sale of new T-shirts, emblazoned with “Did We Win?” along with his hands in the shape of a heart, to raise money for the trauma center in Cincinnati that treated him, according to AP Sports.
In addition, according to Michael Rubin, the CEO of Fanatics, the NFL's apparel partner, Hamlin's jersey quickly became the No. 1-selling jersey on the site. Rubin said sales would go to support Hamlin’s efforts.
"I feel really good about where (he) is though, and the fact that he's home with his parents," McDermott said. "And for us — as Damar's dad has said to us multiple times and Damar has mentioned as well — they want us to go do our job, and that's what we've got to do."
This past weekend, all NFL teams and players supported Hamlin by wearing his No. 3 on warm-up jerseys and caps, with the Bills adding a No. 3 patch to their uniforms.
“Watching the world come together around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling,” Hamlin posted to social media. “The same love you all have shown me is the same love that I plan to put back into the world n more. Bigger than football!”
Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive has taken in more than $8.7 million and counting.
The top donation is $33,333 from Adco Electrical Corp. Jim Irsay and the Indianapolis Colts donated $25,003, Robert Kraft and the New England Patriots $18,003, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers $15,000, Matthew Stafford $12,000, $10,003 each from the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans and $10,000 each from Tom Brady and Russell and Ciara Wilson.
