• Octagon and the National Women’s Soccer League have signed a multi-tier consulting partnership, in which Octagon’s Global Media Rights Consulting and Marketing divisions will "advise the NWSL on its league media rights, sponsorship, and marketing." “The growth of the NWSL over the past six years has been tremendous, and the league, its teams and players show absolutely no sign of slowing down,” Christine Franklin, SVP, Marketing, Octagon, said via the firm.

• The Professional Baseball Agreement between MLB and minor league teams expires at the end of the 2020 season. But if a new MLB proposal were to become reality, more than three dozen cities with affiliated minor league teams will lose those teams a year from now and thousands of minor league players will be out of work as well. • Halloween this year is Oct. 31, and retailers, marketers and consumers are ready for another season of trick-or-treat. Total spend on Halloween 2019 is expected to reach $8.8 billion according to the National Retail Federation, Washington, DC. Full story here.

Businesswoman Danica Patrick Off To The Races In New GoDaddy Campaign

February 12, 2018: As the final two races of her pro career approach, Danica Patrick is making sure that people know she is not driving off into the sunset.

Patrick has established her entrepreneurial skills in several areas, and they all come into focus in a new multi-media campaign from GoDaddy.

The Web site developer was a long-time sponsor with Patrick, parted ways with her in 2016 and is now back not only as a partner but primary sponsor for her car in the Daytona 500 this Sunday (Feb. 18) and the Indy 500 in May.

The new campaign is anchored by a spot, “Make Your Idea Real Like Danica Patrick,” that covers the gamut of her business ventures, including Warrior by Danica activewear, her Pretty Intense book, her Somnium Wine andn as an advocate for women in small businesses.

The campaign supports GoDaddy’s strategy that it would continue to work with Patrick during her “life-after-racing by powering the online presence for her business endeavors related to health, apparel and wine.”

“I’m leaving the track behind, but I’m not standing still,” Patrick says in the spot, which will air during the Dayton 500 on Fox. “And with GoDaddy, I’ve made my ideas real.

“I made my own way,” she says. “Now it’s time to make yours.”

Support includes Internet and social media.

Patrick has now done 22 spots for GoDaddy, more than a dozen of which ran when GoDaddy was a Super Bowl sponsor.

The new campaign is a far cry from her hey-day as a ‘GoDaddy girl’ when ads would show her in the shower, as the fantasy for young men and other risqué storylines.

“It all feels so right,” Danica said in a statement. “So many people spend their lives doing what others expect, or what they think they are supposed to do, instead of what they love – side hustles and hobbies tend to be a reflection of where your real passions are, and it’s about time for me to go all in with my other interests beyond racing.”

According to Barb Rechterman, GoDaddy CMO, “It makes sense in that our goals are so well-aligned — she’s passionate, tenacious and creative just like so many of our customers who are also looking to leverage the power of the internet and turn their ‘side hustle’ into a full-time business. Danica absolutely epitomizes the heart of our GoDaddy customers. We love it.”

AutoWeek is reporting that Ed Carpenter “has emerged as the ‘heir apparent’ to be Danica Patrick’s team owner in the 102nd Indianapolis 500.”

According to AutoWeek, The owner/driver of Ed Carpenter Racing (said) that the two sides continue to talk but the final decision has yet to be made on Patrick's driving a third ECR Chevrolet in this year’s 500-Mile Race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”

GoDaddy signed Patrick to a sponsorship deal in 2006, just after she launched her pro career in IndyCar, then in 2010 was her primary sponsor when she began to race part-time and then full-time in Nascar.

Patrick and GoDaddy parted ways prior to the 2016 season before reuniting last month.

"This is definitely the way I want to finish my racing career — at these two iconic races, backed by my iconic, long-time sponsor," Patrick said in a statement.

"GoDaddy was there for me when my career was just really starting so it's exciting to be getting back in the GoDaddy 'green' for my final two races. Our brands have always been powerful together, and I think it's awesome to have them at my side when I go 'all in' with my businesses after racing."
