July 23, 2009: Quick-serve restaurant chain Del Taco next week will launch a "Bold Challenges" sweepstakes, offering consumers a chance to face off against the likes of Luc Robitaille, Tito Ortiz, Matt Kenseth, Sugar Ray Leonard or Annie Duke.
The campaign is anchored by a dedicated Web site where visitors register for the "opportunity to challenge the sports champion of their choice." Tag: "Go bold or go home." The effort is being held in conjunction with San Manuel (Calif.) Indian Bingo & Casino, which is celebrating its first anniversary with a multi-media push, "How Far Is Fun?", handled in-house, that features Robitaille, Leonard and Duke.
At the Web site, visitors can select from among Hockey Hall of Famer Robitaille (who says, "You and me at center ice"), defending Nascar driver and defending Daytona 500 champ Kenseth (who challenges, "Try and pass me"), former welterweight champ Leonard ("You and me - bring it!"), UFC battler Ortiz ("Just us ... one on one") and pro poker player Duke ("Just the two of us. Heads up").
Entries, which are restricted to residents of California, Arizona and Nevada, will be accepted July 29- Aug. 28; winners will be notified in early September. Full details are at the Web site.
“We are thrilled to be working with these talented athletes and San Manuel on a truly unique program," Jon Burke, field marketing manager for Del Taco, said in a statement. "Being Bold is part of our culture and we are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our customers." Del Taco, Lake Forest, Calif., operates or franchises more than 510 restaurants in 18 states. Back to Home Page
