Go Figure: Deloitte Deal With USTA Includes Davis Cup, Fed Cup, Paralympics

January 23, 2017: Audit, consulting, tax and advisory services firm Deloitte knows a lot about numbers and stats, so in what can be deemed an organic move, the company has signed a "long-term, wide-ranging" deal with the U.S. Tennis Assn., the overseeing body for the sport in the U.S.

Under terms of the alliance, Deloitte becomes an official sponsor for the U.S. Davis Cup and U.S. Fed Cup teams, as well as become an official sponsor of the U.S. Open and the first sponsor of the Wheelchair Competition at the U.S. Open this August-September.

Financial terms were not shared.

Deloitte will support the partnership with multi-media marketing and other on-court, front office and community platforms.

As a sponsor of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup, Deloitte’s logo will appear on U.S. team warm-up jackets. Deloitte said it would also support U.S. team events in markets where the competitions are being held.

In addition, Deloitte is working with the USTA to "revamp USTA’s core enterprise digital technology and build the USTA’s grassroots digital capabilities."

A key focus will be the "development of a suite of products to help the USTA deepen its connection to tennis players." 

Deloitte said its would support USTA initiatives and assets, including "programs that celebrate community impact and promote inclusion, empowered well-being and innovation in and beyond the tennis community."

Deloitte is also working to revamp USTA’s core enterprise digital technology and build the USTA’s grassroots digital capabilities.

A main initiative will be the development of a suite of products to help the USTA deepen its connection to tennis players. The strategy look to "encourage more people, especially youth, to pick up the game of tennis," such as support of USTA initiatives and programs that "celebrate community impact and promote inclusion, empowered well-being and innovation in and beyond the tennis community."

"We are proud to support the USTA with our innovative thinking and creativity," Cathy Engelbert, CEO for Deloitte LLP, said in a statement. "We’re excited to do our part in helping make sure that the next generation of leaders continues to benefit from the enjoyment and lessons of the game."

Other Deloitte sports sponsorships include the USOC and more than a dozen athletes, the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Rugby teams, the U.S National Speedskating Team, U.S. Para-Equestrian Dressage Team and the U.S. Para-Equestrian Dressage National Championships.

According to Gordon Smith, USTA COO and executive director, "We couldn’t be more pleased that our initial relationship with Deloitte has now expanded to this broader support of USTA properties and the sport of tennis.

"They have a world-class team and by collaborating to support world-class tennis events, Deloitte will help the USTA realize its mission of growing the sport of tennis in the U.S.," said Smith.

The U.S. Davis Cup team begins its 2017 Davis Cup campaign Feb. 3 in Birmingham, Ala., against Switzerland. The U.S. Fed Cup team begins its 2017 campaign Feb. 11 against Germany in Maui, Hawaii. The wheelchair competition is held annually, except during Paralympic years.
