Delta Air Lines Spreads Its Wings With The Minnesota Twins

March 31, 2010: As Target Field in Minneapolis prepares for its grand unveiling, the Minnesota Twins are aligning with marketing partners as efficiently as AL MVP and Twins catcher Joe Mauer hits baseballs.

The Twins have signed a new multi-year, multi-million dollar deal with Delta Air Lines, which includes "official airlines" status, marketing and in-stadium signage and exclusive activations.

The franchise had a deal with Delta last season, the Twins' final campaign at the Metrodome, which the airline activated after acquiring Northwest in 2008. Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest's marketing partnership with the Twins began in 1991.

The deal follows an alliance with the Mayo Clinic and the Twins unveiled this week under which they "will work together to help improve the health of people across Twins Territory." The relationship begins April 2 and 3 when Mayo Clinic presents the Exhibition Series as the Twins play their first games in Target Field, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Mayo Clinic and the Minnesota Twins will offer health screenings and educational events throughout the 2010 season.

The Twins will host their first regular season home game at Target Field on April 12 in front of an expected capacity crowd in excess of 39,500.

"As the official airline of the Twins, this new ballpark offers us a unique opportunity to take our relationship with the team and its loyal fans to a new level," Bill Lentsch, Delta's svp-Minnesota operations, said in a statement. "We are excited to bring the distinctive Delta brand and experience to life for baseball fans visiting the new Delta SKY360 Legends Club. This latest commitment to the Twins, an organization that is an integral part of Minneapolis/St. Paul, is yet another way we're reinforcing our commitment to the community."

Delta also has deals with the Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees, Mets, Knicks and Rangers.

According to Dave St. Peter, president of the Minnesota Twins, "Our longstanding relationship with Northwest Airlines is one we are very proud of. As we move into our new home at Target Field, we welcome our friends and partners at Delta Air Lines to their new home in Minneapolis/St. Paul, and look forward to many more years of success as the home teams."
