Veteran Marketing Exec Howard Schacter Named President Of DiGennero

Howard SchacterBy Barry Janoff, Executive Editor

December 8, 2010: Veteran sports, entertainment and retail marketing executive Howard Schacter has been named president of DiGennaro Communications, New York, effective immediately. Schacter joined DGC as managing director earlier this year, a position he held in addition to overseeing his own marketing and management consulting firm.

DGC is among the most active business-to-business communications agencies in the nation, with a lengthy list of clients that include Arnold Worldwide, Digitas, Saatchi & Saatchi, McGarryBowen, and Red Tettener. The client roster ranges from global advertising and media agency networks, creative boutiques and branding/design firms to experiential agencies and social/digital companies.

Previously, Schacter served for four years as chief partnership officer and evp-communications at national apparel retailer Steve & Barry's. There, he helped develop marketing and retail partnerships and cross promotions with such celebrities and companies as Sarah Jessica Parker, Venus Williams, HBO, Universal Pictures, Red Bull and Stephon Marbury, whose $14.99 price-point Starbury line redefined the basketball shoe category. The Port Washington, NY-based company filed for bankruptcy in 2008.

Schacter's resume also includes svp-corporate communications at SFX/Clear Channel Entertainment (which morphed into Live Nation) and head of global corporate communications for Draft.

"Behind founder Samantha DiGennaro, the five-year-old DGC has built a best-in-class reputation in a specialized space — helping companies looking to move the needle within the advertising/marketing/media industry," said Schacter. "With a blue chip client roster, a terrific team and a wonderful culture, DGC offered a great home for my business and future."

“Howard’s deep experience with integrated marketing and communications will help us fuel DGC’s growth by expanding the range of businesses we support, while also strengthening the strategic counsel we’re committed to delivering to our clients," said Samantha DiGennaro said in a statement. "He has built award-winning B2B and B2C PR programs for entertainment, retail and food/beverage companies, while earning the trust of the C-suite. I’m thrilled to have him join our executive management team.”

"With a blue chip client roster, a terrific team and a wonderful culture, DGC offered a great home for my business and future."

According to Schacter, in addition to helping manage DGC and providing C-suite communications counsel, he would be "working with Sam to drive DGC’s growth into new B2B and B2C areas of business: broadcast/cable networks, publishers, sports/entertainment properties and other organizations [that] want access to brand decision-makers and the media who cover them via [such venues as] publicity, thought leadership, speaking opportunities and social networking."
