Warriors Are $7B Golden: Rise To The Top Of NBA’s Most Valuable Teams

October 28, 2022: The Golden State Warriors, defending NBA champions and title winners in four of the past eight seasons, now have a new and first-time crown: Most Valuable Team in the league in 2022-23.
The Warriors are valued at $7 billion, an increase of 25% year-over-year, had the most revenue ($765 million) and received $150 million from sponsorship and advertising in Chase Center — double that of any other NBA club, according to updated and just-released figures from Forbes.
Concurrently, the Warriors had the highest operating income in the league at $206 million.
The Warriors are now also in rare air among the most valuable sports franchises in the world.
That list is topped by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys at $8 billion, followed by the Warriors, Los Angeles Rams ($6.2 billion), New York Yankees ($6 billion) and New York Giants ($6 billion), according to Forbes.
The New York Knicks, which topped the list the previous seven times, are second in value at $6.1 billion and second in operating income at $155 million.
The Top Five also includes the Los Angeles Lakers ($5.9 billion), Chicago Bulls ($4.1 billion) and Boston Celtics ($4 billion).
The Knicks or Lakers had been the league’s No. 1 most valuable team over the past two decades, according to Forbes.
The Phoenix Suns, valued at $2.7 billion, showed a 50% increase in value over last year, the biggest jump in the league.
The Brooklyn Nets, valued at $3.5 billion, were the only team to show a negative operating income, minus $34 million.
The average value of the NBA’s 30 teams is $2.87 billion.
Including the Top Five, 12 teams are valued above the average: the Miami Heat ($3 billion), Toronto Raptors ($3.1 billion), Philadelphia 76ers ($3.15 billion), Houston Rockets ($3.2 billion), Dallas Mavericks ($3.3 billion), Brooklyn Nets ($3.5 billion) and LA Clippers ($3.9 billion).
The five teams with the lowest value include the Indiana Pacers ($1.8 billion), Charlotte Hornets ($1.7 billion), Minnesota Timberwolves ($1.67 billion), Memphis Grizzles ($1/65 billion) and the New Orleans Pelicans ($1.6 billion).
