Veteran Sports Marketer Teams With Oprah
Dec. 18, 2008: Liz Dolan, a marketing executive whose resume includes a decade with Nike, has been named CMO for OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. The start-up effort is being developed with Discovery Communications. Dolan, who will assume her duties effective Jan. 5, 2009, will oversee creation of a brand identity for the network and will steer the development of all marketing efforts supporting the on-air launch of OWN in late 2009/early 2010. She also will be responsible for all on-air, print, radio, and online marketing, according to OWN, Los Angeles. Dolan was at Nike from 1988-1997, where her titles included corporate vice president and director of global marketing. Among other responsibilities, she managed Nike's worldwide brand and product development, advertising, sports marketing, public relations, and consumer research. After Nike, Dolan started her own marketing consultancy and then in 2001 Dolan and her four sisters began the talk radio show, Satellite Sisters, which was syndicated by Public Radio International, ABC Radio Networks and online.
