Drone Racing League Flies To NBC Sports, Twitter For '19 Allianz Championship Season

March 12, 2019: The Drone Racing League has signed a streaming partnership with Twitter and a two-year broadcast agreement with NBC and NBC Sports to air the DRL Allianz World Championship Season.

Coverage for the 2019 season begins Aug. 11 (2 PM  ET) on NBC and Twitter.

DRL said the deals would extend its global reach on premier sports networks and increase access to the sport.

It also will enable people for the first  to watch DRL pro drone racing content concurrently on all screens, including mobile phones, tablets, PCs, and TVs.

The alliances were unveiled in a 30-second spot that preceeds multi-media marketing support closer to the start of the DRL season.

"The fast, non-stop action of the Drone Racing League fits perfectly with the always-on nature of Twitter," TJ Adeshola, head of U.S. sports partnerships for Twitter, said via the company.

"We're excited to bring live video content from this futuristic robotic sport and pair it with the already active conversation around DRL all in one place on Twitter."

According to Jeff Macaluso, senior director, programming for NBC Sports, ”Speed and racing are featured throughout the events that NBC Sports covers, from Olympic sports to motorsports and horse racing's Triple Crown.

"The Drone Racing League showcases a unique blend of speed and skill and we're excited to partner with them for the 2019 and 2020 seasons."

DRL recently announced a three-year partnership with Youku, one of the largest streaming networks in China.

To date, more than 57 million fans have tuned into DRL's first three seasons, which were exclusively broadcast on linear TV.

In addition to Allianz, partners include BMW, Swatch and the U.S. Air Force.
