EA 'Madden 18' Teams With NFL For eSports Premiere Club Championship

Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

August 21, 2017: Calling it a “landmark event” and describing it as the “largest competitive gaming commitment ever by a U.S. professional sports league,” Electronic Arts and the NFL have united to launch the Madden NFL Club Championship, a competitive gaming and eSports event within the second season of the Madden NFL Championship Series.

The Madden NFL Club Championship will encompass all 32 NFL teams.

This year’s Madden NFL 18 Championship Series features the biggest prize pool to date, more than $1.15 million.

Competition begins Aug. 22 with the launch of EA Sports Madden NFL 18 G.O.A.T Edition for Xbox One and PlayStation4. (Players can sign to compete at www.NFL.com/Madden.)

Madden NFL 18 is scheduled for release Aug.25.

"Our first season of Madden NFL competitions was a great success, engaging millions of players and igniting the passion of NFL fans worldwide," Andrew Wilson, CEO for EA, said in a statement. “Now we’re taking competitive gaming and our NFL partnership to an unprecedented level, with Madden NFL players competing to represent all 32 NFL teams."

EA Sports unveiled a promo trailer to tout the Madden NFL Club Championship, with multi-media supporting the release of Madden NFL 18 G.O.A.T Edition and the traditional Madden NFL 18.

The Madden NFL Club Championship is one of three competitions in the Madden NFL Championship Series EA Majors, along with Madden NFL Classic (Oct. 20-21) and the Madden NFL Challenge on (Dec. 15-16).

According to EA Sports, players will initially qualify for the  Madden NFL Club Championship through online competition, with high-performers advancing to tournaments at select NFL stadiums, popular cultural landmarks and other locations.

When the final 32 players are identified, one per NFL team, they will compete in the Madden NFL Club Championship Live Finals, a tournament occurring first at the Pro Bowl Experience in Orlando, FL and culminating at the Super Bowl Experience Driven by GMC in Minneapolis.

The winner will receive a cash prize and two tickets to Super Bowl LII.

According to NFL commissioner Roger Goodall, "Competitive gaming and eSports are one of the most exciting ways to engage a larger, younger and digitally savvy NFL audience.

"Collaborating with EA to create the Madden NFL Club Championship presents a unique opportunity to capture the excitement of NFL action and the passion of our fans with competition that anyone can participate in."
