New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony Finds Himself In A Jersey State Of Mind

By Barry Janoff

April 9, 2013: It pays to score 203 points in five games, lead your team on a double-digit winning streak and contend for one of the top spots in the NBA post-season.

That has all happened to Carmelo Anthony this season, and one result is that his New York Knicks' No. 7 jersey is the best-selling player jersey of the year.

'Melo passed LeBron James of the Miami Heat for the No. 1 spot among jersey sales from the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue in New York and at NBAStore.com from November-April, according to the NBA.

The NBA also said that Anthony is the first Knicks player to hold the top spot in sales since the list first was compiled in 2001-02.

James has held the No. 1 spot four times and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers seven times since the league began to compile jersey and merchandise statistics.

Sales figures were not released.

On the court. the Heat hold the No. 1 spot in the Eastern Conference heading into the last days of the season, with the Knicks at No. 2.

The Knicks also hold the top spot among merchandise sales over the November-April period, with the Heat at No. 2.

The Top Five jersey sales also include (in order) Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Bryant and Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls. Rose has not played since being injured in the opening round of the 2011-12 playoffs.

Anthony in four consecutive games scored 50, 40, 41 and 36 points during the Knicks 12-game win run.

The Top Five team merchandise sales also include (in order) the Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and Bulls.

The Knicks' Amar'e Stoudemire jersey is No. 14 on the list despite having played only 29 games this season.

Other teams with multiple players on the top-selling jersey list are the Heat (James, Dwyane Wade), Los Angeles Clippers (Chris Paul, Blake Griffin), Thunder (Durant, Russell Westbrook), Lakers (Bryant, Dwight Howard) and Boston Celtics (Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce).

There are no rookies on the list and only one sophomore, Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Adidas is in its seventh season as the official uniform and apparel partner of the NBA.
