July 12, 2018: The 2018 MLB All-Star Game presented by MasterCard will air on Fox on July 17, but the network’s plethora of cameras won’t be the only ones capturing the action in Nationals Park in Washington DC.
Fox Sports said it also plans to chronicle the action “through the lenses of 100,000 cameras and thousands of fans across the country,” to be compiled in 100,000 Cameras: MLB All-Star Game as the newest documentary in its on-going series, 100,000 Cameras.
The docu-series debuted on FS1 in May 2014 with 100,000 Cameras: Nascar All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Fox Sports said that 100,000 Cameras: MLB All-Star Game would incorporate fan-generated video from MLB All-Star Week “to tell the story of the midsummer classic from every conceivable angle, illustrating how baseball connects people and communities at the ballpark and across the country.”
The special will also feature additional Fox Sports camera angles and content not part of Fox‘s live broadcast of the game — as well as images from the T-Mobile Home Run Derby on ESPN the night before the All-Star Game — “from all perspectives until the lights go out at Nationals Park.”
According to Fox Sports, “Fans everywhere are invited to tell their own MLB All-Star Week story by using their cameras and camera phones (record horizontally) to capture the event and the days preceding it (whether at the ballpark, at home, in a bar, etc.).”
Fox is directing people to upload their videos to social media accounts using #100KCams during the week and immediately following the game. (Details here.)
100,000 Cameras: MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to premiere July 28 on FS1 following coverage of the Chicago Cubs at St,.Louis Cardinals game.
Fox said its 100,000 Cameras has earned two Sports Emmy awards, for last December’s 100,000 Cameras: Ohio State vs. Michigan; and the 2016 100,000 Cameras: Daytona 500.
In addition, 100,000 Cameras: Talladega earned a Sports Emmy nomination in 2015.
