Can Nets Sell 'We're In' Marketing Mantra With Ex-Celtics Garnett, Pierce To Brooklyn?

By Barry Janoff

July 16, 2013: Can two players from Boston make it in Brooklyn where there is no love lost between the Celtics and the Nets?

As The Chambers Brothers used to sing, "Time has come today."

The Brooklyn Nets will not officially introduce their new players until Thursday, but Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and  Andrei Kirilenko already are part of a marketing and sales campaign targeting the 2013-14 NBA season.

The effort, "Hello Brooklyn. We're In," is  an extension of the "Hello Brooklyn" push from last season when the Nets played their first campaign in the borough of New York, and first in the new Barclays Center, after 35 years in New Jersey.

This year, Garnett, Pierce, Terry — all acquired via a trade with the Boston Celtics — and free agent Kirilenko take the place in TV, print, radio, outdoor and Internet that last year was filled by Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez and Gerald Wallace (traded to the Celtics with Kris Humphries and future draft choices).

In addition, team gear is already available at Nets Shop by adidas within Barclays Center and online at the Nets store Web site.

Team management said the Nets have sold more than $3 million of new full season tickets since the announcements about the roster additions last week. The team also has a new head coach, Jason Kidd.

“The power of this new campaign is clear: future Hall of Famers and star talent are all in to bring the Nets to new heights,” Brett Yormark, Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center CEO, said in a statement. “We want Brooklynites to know that this is their team and that we’re working toward an NBA championship together.”

Garnett, who has been in the NBA since 1995 (the last six with the Celtics) is featured on T-shirts that also sport his nickname, "Big Ticket." Likewise, Pierce, whose entire NBA career since 1998 was with the Celtics, gets his "The Truth" nickname on Brooklyn T-shirts.

"Hello Brooklyn. We’re In," will run until Labor Day.

“We continue to be a product in high demand, now more than ever,” said Yormark. “I would encourage fans who are interested in season tickets to buy now and be part of what will be a memorable season.”
