• Through the first two weekends of the NBA Playoffs, national ad spend has reached $135.1 million across league media partners: TNT, ESPN, ESPN 2, ABC and NBA TV, according to iSpot.TV.  That is down from $145 million at the same point a year ago. GE Extends Deal With USOC, Solidifies Olympic Presence Through 2020

May 24, 2012: General Electric said it has signed an extension of its deal with the U.S. Olympic Committee that would run through the 2020 Summer Games.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

GE has been an official USOC partner since 2005. The deal now matches the pact that GE signed last June with the International Olympic Committee, which also runs through 2020.

“We value our relationship with the USOC and look forward to continuing our partnership to bring the best technology and healthcare to work for the United States Olympians and Paralympians as they prepare for competition,” Peter Foss, president, GE Olympic Sponsorship and Corporate Sales, said in a statement.

GE will remain the USOC’s "exclusive provider of a wide range of innovative products, technology and services," according to the company.

After London 2012, the next Olympics Games will be Winter 2014 in Sochi, Russia; Summer 2016 in Rio de Janeiro; and Winter 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The 2020 Summer Games host nation will be selected by the IOC in September 2013 from among Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul.

According to Scott Blackmun, CEO for the USOC, “GE has been a great supporter of America’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes and we are thrilled by the news of this extension. We look forward to building on this partnership and working with this valued partner for years to come.”

The USOC also said today that, for the first time, it would use GE’s Centricity Practice Solution integrated electronic medical records product to manage the care of more than 700 athletes competing in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The USOC will also use the product to maintain "3,000 additional records" maintained by its staff.

According to GE, the technology will replace "pallets of paper records historically shipped by the USOC to the Games and will provide doctors with faster access to athletes’ medical records – ultimately supporting the doctor’s ability to provide more targeted care."

“The introduction of GE’s EMR technology is a big step forward for the USOC sports medicine program,” Dr. Bill Moreau, USOC managing director of sports medicine, said in a statement. “EMR technology will allow us to better monitor and analyze the health of Team USA athletes, not only when they receive care at our facilities, but also when they are competing and training around the world.”

In addition to GE, global IOC partners include Acer, Atos, Coca-Cola, Dow, McDonald's Omega, Panasonic, P&G, Samsung and Visa.

Other USOC marketing partners include 24 Hour Fitness, Allstate, Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser), AT&T, BMW, BP, Chobani, Citi, The Hartford, Hilton, Kellogg's, Nike, TD Ameritrade and United Airlines.
