Hey, Google, Sign On As Presenting Partner For NBA All-Star Game 2019 Voting

By Barry Janoff

December 17, 2018: The NBA has a new presenting partner for All-Star voting, and people now have more options when it comes to selecting their favorite players.

The league has signed a multi-year deal naming Google its presenting NBA All-Star Voting partner, beginning with 2019 balloting,

NBA All-Star Voting 2019 presented by Google begins Dec. 25 at 11 AM (ET) — an hour before the league’s five games across ABC and ESPN — and conclude on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21 at 11:59 PM (ET).

Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

With the new alliance, people can vote by searching on Google and also through using any Google Assistant enabled device by saying, "Google, talk to NBA All-Star."

In addition, voting will be conducted via the NBA App and NBA.com.

The alliance with the NBA comes as Google has unveiled plans to invest more than “$1 billion in capital improvements to establish a new campus, Google Hudson Square,” in New York, according to Ruth Porat, svp and CFO for Google and Alphabet, Inc.

The expansion includes two buildings on Hudson Street and another on Washington Street, with plans to move in by 2020 and 2022, respectively.

This would be in addition to plans unveiled earlier this year for a $2.4 billion purchase of the Manhattan Chelsea Market and shared plans to lease additional space at Pier 57., according to Porat.

The 68th NBA All-Star Game will be played in Spectrum Center, in Charlotte, N.C., on Sunday, Feb. 17  on TNT (8 PM ET).

Voting updates will be shared three times by the league: Jan. 3, Jan. 10 and Jan. 17.

Five “2-for-1 Days” will allow people to have their votes count twice through all voting platforms: Jan. 3, Jan. 4, Jan. 10, Jan. 11 and Jan. 21 (Midnight – 11:59 PM ET each day).

TNT will reveal the NBA All-Star Game starters, including the two captains, on Jan. 24 during TNT NBA Tip-Off presented by Autotrader, featuring Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith.

TNT will then unveil the reserves, as selected by NBA head coaches, on Jan. 31 during TNT NBA Tip-Off.

The NBA All-Star Game will follow last year’s format, with the two team captains drafting rosters from the pool of players voted as starters and reserves and making their picks regardless of conference affiliation.

Unlike last year, this year NBA All-Star Game draft will be nationally televised.

The captains will be the All-Star starter from each conference who receives the most fan votes in his conference.

Details about the NBA All-Star Draft will be shared at a later date.

For the third consecutive year, NBA players and media will join fans in selecting the NBA All-Star Game starters.

Fans will account for 50% of the vote, while all current players and a media panel will account for 25% each.

Throughout the voting period, people may submit one full ballot each day through the NBA App and NBA.com, as well as on Google and through the Google Assistant.

All current NBA players will be available for selection.

Players and media will also be able to complete one ballot, featuring three front court players and two guards from both the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference.

Players may vote for their teammates or themselves.

People can vote on Google.com or the Google Search App by searching “NBA Vote” and “NBA All-Star Vote” or by searching for their favorite player or team.

People can submit votes for ten unique players per day from Dec. 25 – Jan. 21.

NBA All-Star Voting will be available on the Google Assistant for the first time using any Google Assistant enabled device by saying, "Google, talk to NBA All-Star."

People may submit votes for up to ten unique players per day from Dec. 25 – Jan. 21.

The Google Assistant is available on laptops, phones, speakers, tablets and other connected devices.
