• Tony Wyllie has been named regional president and managing director for Special Olympics North America. Wyllie most recently was svp-communications for the NFL’s Washington Redskins since 2010. His three-decade career also includes PR/communications w the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans.

• The Los Angeles Clippers have signed a deal with Los Angeles-based tech firm Honey, which includes naming rights to team's renovated Honey Training Center: Home of the L.A. Clippers and its logo on team practice jerseys. According to Honey, "10 million-plus members worldwide use Honey's suite of free tools daily to save time and money when shopping online.”

• Washington Mystics forward-guard Elena Delle Donne has been named 2019 WNBA MVP.  It is the second MVP award for seven-year player, making her the first player in WNBA history to earn the honor with two different teams (2015 Chicago Sky).

• BMW Group Russia has signed a deal with tennis star Daniil Medvedev, currently ranked No. 4 in the world, who fell in five sets to Rafael Nadal in the recent U.S. Open Grand Slam finals. Medvedev, who will represent Russia in the inaugural ATP Cup tournament in Australia this January, will participate in various brand activities, including a BMW patch on his shirt, in Russia and worldwide to be unveiled at a later date.

• SoFi Stadium, which will be the new $6 billion home venue for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Chargers beginning in 2020, will open July 25-26 with two Taylor Swift concerts.

• CBD edible company Bhang, Miami, has acquired Red Ace, a leading organic beverage company. Bhang plans to launch a Red Ace-branded line of CBD/terpene-style beverages and products, including functional sparkling beverages. Athlete ambassadors include Christian Ramirez, Russell Canouse and Kelyn Rowe (MLS) and Spencer Keiboom (Washington Nationals). Red Ace products are currently sold at more than 1,400 locations, including Whole Foods and Amazon.

• The Paley Center for Media, NY, will honor the 100th season of the NFL with a new exhibit: "A Century of Football: Celebrating the NFL’s 100th Season," free and open to the public (Sept. 14-Oct. 27), which includes the first public screening of the only known complete broadcast of Super Bowl I (then known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game) in January 1967 between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs

• Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, co-founders of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, have launched with The ALS Assn. the 5th anniversary of “Challenge Me” with a “new call to action to reignite the passion and generosity of the millions of people who dumped ice water on their heads in the summer of 2014.”

Somewhere During Moving Merchandise And Product Placement, There Was An NBA Slam Dunk Event

This dunk earned Blake Griffin the 2011 Slam Dunk contest crown and gave Kia a new commercial.February 27, 2011: How low can the NBA go? Apparently as high as a Blake Griffin slam dunk.

Turns out there was more than product placement and marketing partner overkill involved when Blake Griffin won the 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk contest during All-Star Weekend presented by State Farm. While the Crenshaw Select Choir sang "I Believe I Can Fly" at midcourt, and with now ex-teammate Baron Davis tossing him a pass from inside the car, Griffin jumped over the hood of a Kia Optima – yes, the official car of the NBA – to impress the judges.

Griffin, who is the leading candidate for ROY honors and also has a new marketing campaign with Subway, impressed the executives at Kia, as well. Footage of the dunk is now the nucleus of a national TV commercial, and the shot of Griffin in mid-air is being used in supporting marketing via print and Internet.

"Blake Griffin's incredible feat during NBA All-Star 2011 was anything but average and we are proud the all-new Kia Optima played a role in his Sprite Slam Dunk championship," Michael Sprague, vp-marketing and communications for Kia Motors America, said in a statement. "Kia Motors is the official automotive Partner of the NBA and we are tremendous fans of the game of basketball."

Kia's 30-second TV spot using footage of Griffin's dunk from the 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest broke over this past weekend during NBA coverage on ESPN and TNT. It will run throughout the season with the tag:  "Not your average dunk. Not your average midsize sedan."

Griffin's feat on TNT was part of the most watched NBA All-Star Saturday Night presented by State Farm in the event's 26-year history. Following the Slam Dunk contest, Griffin autographed the 2011 Kia Optima over which he dunked, and the sedan will be provided to one of Griffin's charitable interests, according to Kia.
