Basketball Hall Candidates For Class Of 2022: Ginobili, Whalen, Joey Crawford

December 21, 2021: The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has unveiled the list of eligible candidates for the Class of 2022, to coincide with the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Season.

First-time nominees include players Manu Ginobili (four-time NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs), Tom Chambers and Lindsay Whalen (four-time WNBA champion with the Minnesota Lynx).

First-time nominees include referees John Clougherty and Joey Crawford, who was in the NBA from 1977-2016, officiating in every NBA Finals series from 1986 to 2015 (except for 2007).

First-time nominees include coaches David Hixon and Gary Blair.

Candidate players who have previously been on the ballot include Chauncey Billups, Muggsy Bogues, Marcus Camby, Swin Cash, Michael Cooper, Richard Hamilton, Becky Hammon, Tim Hardaway, Mark Jackson, Marques Johnson and Buck Williams.

Candidate coaches who have previously been on the ballot include Jack Curran, Leonard Hamilton, George Karl, Rollie Massimino, Dick Motta, Digger Phelps, Norm Sloan and Paul Westhead.

Finalists from the North American and Women’s committee for the Class of 2022 will be named during NBA All-Star Weekend, scheduled for Feb. 18-20 in Cleveland.

The Hall of Fame will also reveal the full Enshrinement schedule at that time.

The entire Class of 2022, including those selected by the direct elect committees, will be unveiled during the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans, April 2-4.

The Class of 2021 included Chris Bosh, Lauren Jackson, Paul Pierce, Bill Russell (coach), Ben Wallace and Chris Webber.

The Class of 2022 Enshrinement ceremony is scheduled to take place in Springfield, Mass., Sept. 9-10, 2022.

Tickets for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2022 Enshrinement ceremony and various events surrounding the ceremony will be on-sale at a later date.
