Danica Patrick, In The Driver’s Seat One More Time, Preps For Indy 500

By Barry Janoff

March 7, 2018: In what will be the final race of her professional career, Danica Patrick has confirmed that she would be driving under the Ed Carpenter Racing banner during the Indianapolis 500 on May 27.

Patrick said she would be in the No. 13 Chevrolet car sponsored by primary partner GoDaddy.

Patrick raced in IndyCar before moving to Nascar.

She shared news of her retirement from pro racing late last year, then competed in the Daytona 500 in February as part of what she called the “Danica Double.”

Patrick's Nascar career ended when she was involved in a multi-car a crash during Lap 102 of the Daytona 500, leaving her in 35th place.

Patrick stars in a recently release Go Daddy campaign, “Make Your Idea Real,” in which she shows off her entrepreneurial and other skills away from the race track.

Patrick has appeared in 22 spots for GoDaddy, more than a dozen of which ran when GoDaddy was a Super Bowl sponsor.

GoDaddy is supporting Danica's life-after-racing by powering the online presence for her business endeavors related to health, apparel and wine.

"I love how everything is coming full circle,” Patrick said in a statement. "I’m going to close out my racing career at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the place where so many amazing things have happened for me. I'm back in GoDaddy green and joining a great team.

“Ed Carpenter Racing is consistently competitive at Indy. I can't think of a better way to finish out my racing career than at the Indianapolis 500 with this team and GoDaddy."

According to Barb Rechterman, evp and CMO for GoDaddy, "Let there be no question about Danica's ability to go out with a win at what is arguably the most recognized race in the world.

“One of the best parts of all this for us is that it's never really been about whether she wins – it's more about Danica's moxie, her commitment and her ability to compete at the highest levels of a male-dominated sport.”

Rechterman said now that Patrick is on the verge of retiring to pursue her own businesses and entrepreneurial interests full-time, "Like so many of our customers, we are aligned better than any time in our decade-plus long relationship. It's all so poetic from our perspective."

Among her many racing accolades, Patrick is the only woman to win a Verizon IndyCar Series race, the Indy Japan 300 in 2008. In 2005, her IndyCar rookie season, she made history as the first woman to lead laps at the Indianapolis 500.

In seven Indy 500 competitions, Patrick earned six Top Ten finishes, qualified on the second row in 2008, and in 2009 she finished third, scoring the highest finish for a woman.
