Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.

Chicago 2016 Bid Is On The Clock

April 1, 2009: It may be April 1 - April Fools' Day to many - but the committee in charge of bringing the 2016 Olympics to Chicago is in a more serious mood, considering that the International Olympic Committee officially hits the city on April 2.Chicago is the first of the four cities bidding for the Games to be held seven years from now getting an official visit. The IOC evaluation members will be in town through April 8. The others in order of IOC visits are Tokyo (IOC officials visit the bid city April 16-19), Rio de Janeiro (April 29-May 2) and Madrid (May 5-8). "They're here to verify a lot of what was in the bid book," Chicago 2016 Chairman Patrick Ryan told the Chicago Tribune. "They want to kick the tires. … They want to see it." Chicago's bid was aided by support from both the Illinois House of Representatives and State Senate, which voted to allot $250 million should the Chicago Games not turn a profit. The city itself has allocated support funds, bringing the "emergency" total to about $750 million. Chicago 2016 also plans to get support from a man who currently might be its most famous resident - President Obama - who still owns a house in the city and has publicly given his support for the Games to be held in the U.S. Although he is not expected to be in town during the IOC visit, Chicago 2016 has put in a request for the President to make an appearance at the IOC meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 2 when the IOC will make its decision.
