Jack Sock Joins Kobe, Trout, Rizzo, Posey, Dustin Johnson On BodyArmor Roster

By Barry Janoff

March 8, 2017: If you want to be considered among the best athlete in your sport, it certainly helps to associate with other athletes who are considered among the best athletes in their respective sports.

Which may be one big reason why tennis player Jack Sock has signed a multi-year deal with BodyArmor sports energy drink.

Included on BodyArmor’s endorsement roster:

Klay Thompson has won an NBA title with the Golden State Warriors, Dustin Johnson is the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, Anthony Rizzo is a member of the MLB defending World Champion Chicago Cubs, Mike Trout is a two-time American League MVP, Kevin Love is a member of the NBA defending World Champion Cleveland Cavaliers, Buster Posey is a three-time World Series champion with the San Francisco Giants, Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks has an NFL Super Bowl XLVIII title ring.

And Kobe Bryant won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers before he retired in 2016.

"Hyped to join the awesome @DrinkBODYARMOR team!" Sock posted on his Twitter page. "#DitchArtificialSportsDrinks #Switch2BODYARMOR."

According to his bio on the BodyArmor Web site, his preferred flavor is Watermelon Strawberry.

The alliance with Sock, who currently is ranked No. 18 — but the top-ranked male American in the world, according to the ATP World Tour — is BodyArmor’s first with a tennis player. According to the brand, "This partnership marks BodyArmor’s first foray into the world of tennis, where proper nutrition and hydration has long been a very important part of player performance."

BodyArmor said that Sock would be "instrumental in helping to raise awareness for the fast-growing sports drink worldwide."

Marketing support will include print, POP, digital social media and on-site activation at local events.

Marketing uses the tag line, "Team BodyArmor: There’s nothing artificial about these athletes."

Sock, who is represented by WME-IMG, also has deals that include Nike and Babolat.

BodyArmor has been expanding its roster beyond the core MLB-NFL-NBA deals. The company in January signed a multi-year pact with 16-year-old snowboarding phenom Maddie Mastro, which marked BodyArmor’s first action sports athlete deal.

Other athletes on its roster include Andrew Luck, Skylar Diggins, Dez Bryant and Kristaps Porzingas.

Bryant is the third-largest investor in the company behind chairman and co-founder Mike Repole and Dr Pepper Snapple Group, which has a 15.5%, according to the company.

Sock, 28, turned pro 2011 and has been ranked as high as No. 6 (2015). During the 2016 Summer Games in Rio, he won a gold medal in mixed doubles and a bronze in doubles.

This year, he has won the ASB Classic championship (Auckland, New Zealand) and the Del-Rey Beach (Fla.) Open title.
