JetBlue Takes Flight With NBA No. 1 Draft Pick Blake Griffin

June 30, 2009: The Los Angeles Clippers and JetBlue Airways have launched a “32 Flights in 32 Hours” sweepstakes, with 32 representing the jersey number of Blake Griffin, who last week was selected as the Clippers No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. The news coincided with the Clippers officially introducing Griffin on June 29 to local media and fans at the team's new workout facility in Playa Vista. The sweepstakes supports Jet Blue's new routes from Burbank, LAX and Long Beach to New York and Boston, which began June 17.

According to JetBlue, which also is the official airline of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim and Boston Red Sox, 32 fans will each receive one round-trip flight on JetBlue from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to either Boston’s Logan or New York’s John F. Kennedy International (JFK) airports. The contest began at 12:00 PM Pacific time on June 29 and ends 32 hours later, at 8:00 PM Pacific time on June 30. Details and conditions are available at the Los Angeles Clippers Web site.

Griffin will figure prominently in the team's marketing efforts for the 2009-10 season. In addition to the  deal with JetBlue, the Clippers have Griffin jerseys for sale at its Web site. and are using his selection to  try to boost season ticket sales. "He's somewhere between Charles Barkley's explosiveness and ability to rebound [and] Tim Duncan's size and ballhandling skills out on the floor," Clippers' head coach Mike Dunleavy said of the 6'10" power foward out of Oklahoma at the media event.
