NFL’s Most In-Demand Tickets: Raiders, Cowboys, Dolphins, Jets And Rodgers

By Barry Janoff

September 1, 2023: The fact that Super Bowl LVIII will be played n Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on Feb. 11. 2024 — a first for the city — seems to have jump-started ticket sales for the hometown Raiders, with the team ranked No. 1 among the Most In-Demand tickets for the 2023 NFL season.

Concurrently, the New York Jets, with new quarterback Aaron Rodgers, rank as StubHub's Top Trending NFL Team, with a 451.40% jump in ticket sales over last season.

Raiders' ticket sales have nearly tripled compared to last season at this time and are up 70% since 2021, when they were also ranked No. 1, all according to ticket marketplace StubHub.

The Raiders also host the No. 1 Most In-Demand Game, when the Pittsburgh Steelers visit Allegiant Stadium on Sept. 24.

The Raiders replaced the now No. 2 Dallas Cowboys, with Las Vegas outselling Jerry Jones’ team by 30%.

Jones can take solace knowing that the Cowboys have for the 17th consecutive season been ranked as the NFL’s most valuable franchise, $9 billion, according to Forbes.

StubHub said all figures are based on cumulative StubHub ticket sales as of Sept. 1 for the 2023 season.

“Sales for this NFL season follow this year's trend in surging sales for live events, with double the sales from last season, bolstered by quarterback shuffles and rising international popularity," Adam Budelli, StubHub spokesperson, said via the company.

“The Jets, in particular, are trending with 5.5-times the sales of last season's start, as they set their season's hopes on Aaron Rodgers . . . I think we all expected the Jets to make a big jump in sales from last season, heading into 2023 given the hype around Aaron Rodgers.”

The hype includes the Jets appearance on this season’s HBO: Hard Knocks.

The Top Five Most In-Demand Teams also includes the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers.

“Vegas and Miami have become known as major sports destinations for fans to travel to in recent years and the upcoming NFL season reinforces this trend, with Raiders as the No. 1 most in-demand team and Dolphins with three-times the sales of the 2022 season start,” said Budell.

“The Cowboys still draw, appearing in three of the Top Ten highest-selling games, more than any other team, while New York teams are trending up.”

The Jets at the Cowboys (Sept. 17) is among the Most In-Demand Games of the season, as are the Cowboys at 49ers (Oct. 8) and the Cowboys at Carolina Panthers (Nov. 19), according to StubHub.

Behind the Jets, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs have the second biggest jump in sales vs. 2022 (316.61%) as they try to become the first repeat champions since the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII (2003 NFL season) and Super Bowl XXXIX (2004 NFL season).

The game between Dolphins and Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany on Nov. 5  is outselling the five international games will play this season, followed by the Indianapolis Colts vs. New England in Frankfurt Nov. 12, based on StubHub ticket sales of the NFL International Series.

“Increase in demand for international games is driving the globalization of the sport with total sales for this year's five international games up 90% compared to this same time last year,” according to StubHub.

“The NFL draws strongest global audiences, boosted by international games: Buyers for all NFL games this season are coming from 74 different countries, 50% more countries than last season.”

The Top Ten countries for NFL sales are the U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany, Mexico, Australia, Switzerland, Brazil, Austria and Ireland, based on StubHub sales for the NFL regular season.

“A trend we’ve continued to watch year over year is the increased globalization of the league’s fanbase,” said Budelli.

“Some of this year’s growth is driven by U.S. fans but much of it is growing interest from sports fans abroad, which follows an overall global trend we’re also seeing - people using live events as a motivation to travel.”
