The Eyes Have It: Jets Fly New TV Deal Amid Record-Setting Broadcast Numbers

January 18, 2011: The New York Jets are a hot ticket, and SNY knows it. On the heels of the Jets post-season victories against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts and Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, New York-based cable network SNY and the Jets have signed a new TV and marketing deal that includes exclusive year-round in-depth access to Jets players, coaches and front office executives.  In addition, SNY will continue to have the right to distribute Jets content via www.SNY.tv (subject to NFL guidelines).

Financial terms of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed.

According to the NFL, the playoff game Jan. 16 on CBS between the Jets and Patriots, drew 43.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched Divisional Playoff game ever and the most-watched show since the record-setting Super Bowl XLIV last February. In addition, Jets-Patriots and Seattle Seahawks-Chicago Bears on Fox that same day produced the most-watched Divisional Sunday in 17 years, averaging 37.8 million viewers. An average of 35.1 million viewers watched NFL games last weekend, the most ever for an NFL Divisional Weekend and a 6% increase from last season (33 million viewers).  The 35.1 million average surpasses the previous Divisional record of 34.2 million in 1993.

SNY said that its coverage this week of the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 23 between the Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers would airing every press conference live and numerous Jets personnel appearing on SNY shows throughout the week. Immediately following the Jets-Steelers game, SNY said it would air a special edition of Jets Post Game Live, which features in-depth analysis, exclusive on-field and locker room interviews with key Jets players as well as exclusive access to head coach Rex Ryan’s closed-door address to the team after the game.

“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with the New York Jets,” Steve Raab, president of SNY, said in a statement. “The Jets have been a cornerstone of SNY’s programming for the past five seasons and we’re excited to continue to provide football fans with an unprecedented level of first-rate, in-depth coverage and original programming dedicated to the Jets.”

According to Matt Higgins, Jets evp-business operations, "We are committed to making the team as accessible as possible to our fans. Over the last five seasons, SNY has done a tremendous job of steadily pulling back the curtain and going deeper inside Jets Nation. As a result, fans have unique access and original insights all year long."

Founded by Sterling Entertainment Enterprises, Time Warner and Comcast, SNY is available to viewers throughout New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania, and nationally on DirecTV, Dish Network and AT&T U-Verse. SNY, which launched in 2006, is also the official TV home of the New York Mets and the NCAA Big East Conference.
