'It's Amazing': Joel Embiid Is The One, Scores Cover Of EA Sports 'NBA Live 19'

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

June 26, 2018: During the NBA Awards Monday night on TNT, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers was unveiled as the cover athlete for EA Sports NBA Live 19.

He also is one of the players that gamers can choose in “The One” platform and the new “Build Your Squad,” which enables users to create a roster mixing current players and legends — i.e. Embiid and Allen ("The Answer") Iverson.

“It’s great, it’s amazing. I’m thankful for this opportunity, especially as a basketball player,” Embiid, who sent the news out on his Twitter account, said in a statement.

“You work so hard because you have goals in life, you want to be in the Hall of Fame, but also, being on the cover of a video game is something I’ve always dreamed of and I’m happy to be in this position.”

The game is due for release Sept, 7 (Playstation 4, Xbox One).

In supporting marketing, EA Sports offers, “Embiid has revolutionized the game by being able to control the ball on both offense and defense, and he’ll let you know when you lose, too. Be sure to team up alongside Embiid before he shuts your game down!

According to Joshua Rabenovets, senior brand director for EA Sports. “Joel is a perfect fit to grace the cover of NBA Live 19. He is the voice of the new wave of basketball players and his on-court dominance, creative personality, and love for the fans made him an ideal choice for this year's game.”

In a spot for NBA Live 19, action from the game is enhanced by a voiceover.

“I’m The One. But I’m not the only one. We are The One. We can shut you down and put you on an island. We’re balls’ So be ready. Cause we’re coming at you.

“Say it how you want: Trust the Process. Call next. Or be The Answer. But remember — wherever you ball, when you are on my court, I’m The One.”

The selection of Embiid continues a strong year for the native of Cameroon. He helped led the Sixers to a 52-30 record (the team’s best showing since 2001) and into the playoffs for the first time since 2012. He will lead Team Africa in the NBA Africa Game 2018 (scheduled for Aug. 4).

Embiid had the No. 8 best-selling jersey in the NBA this past season.

Embed follows in the cover history of James Harden (NBA Live 18). Russell Westbrook (NBA Live 16), Damian Lillard (NBA Live 15) and Kyrie Irving (NBA Live 14).
