John Daly Returns From Suspension With New Marketing Partner

June 4, 2009: John Daly, who has been serving a six-month suspension due to conduct deemed by the PGA Tour as being detrimental to golf, and whose recent book is called Golf My Own Damn Way, said he would have a new marketing partner when he returns to the PGA Tour on June 11 for the St. Jude Classic in Memphis. All Sport, the sports drink a subsidiary of Big Red that is distributed by the Dr Pepper Snapple Group, signed a multi-year agreement with Daly that would include such marketing opportunities as a POP, a sweepstakes and the Big Red logo on Daly's golf bag. Financial terms were not disclosed. All Sport, competing for consumers with Pepsi's Gatorade, Coca-Cola's PowerAde and Vitaminwater and others in a crowded sports drink category, also has sponsorship deals that include golfer Bubba Watson, MLB's Toronto Blue Jays, and drivers in Nascar and IRL. During his PGA Tour suspension, Daly has been playing golf tournaments in Europe, including the BMW Championship at Wentworth, England in May. According to a statement from Daly, "A little rest and rehydration has positioned [me] for a strong comeback . . . I am excited to finally drink something that tastes great and rehydrates me while I'm playing golf." Daly added that the marketing concepts from the All Sport team are "awesome." "We feel this is a perfect partnership," Jimmy Piloto, vp-sales for All Sport, said in a statement. "By providing a healthy sports drink, we help John's efforts with his performance at a high level on the PGA tour." Daly's agent is Bud Martin of SFX Sports. Back to Home Page
