August 9, 2009: Upper Deck this week will release a commemorative, 50-card box set of basketball trading cards celebrating the career of the six-time NBA world champion Chicago Bulls all-star Michael Jordan. Each box will also include one of 10 different 3.5-by-5-inch commemorative “Slam-Dunk” box-topper cards. Ten different Jordan-autographed commemorative cards will be randomly inserted. The set will retail for $19.99 be available nationwide beginning Aug. 11. Locations include more than 350 different 7-Elevens in the Chicagoland area.
The set ties into Jordan's induction in August in the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame presented by Allstate as a member of the 1992 Olympic men's basketball "Dream Team" and also into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September.
“This will be a highly coveted set for any Jordan or Bulls fan,” Brandon Miller, Upper Deck’s basketball brand manager, said in a statement. “We look forward to seeing collectors’ reactions once this product hits store shelves.”
The U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame induction will take place in Chicago on Aug. 12. The Naismith Hall of Fame induction will take place Sept. 11 in Springfield, Mass. The Naismith class of 2009 also includes David Robinson, John Stockton, Jerry Sloan and C. Vivian Stringer.
